Cancer has been around for many years, but it was only 200 years ago that Dercivall Pott discovered it. They determined that different types of cancer were caused for many reasons, but they also discovered you could get cancer from different types of jobs. For example, there was a high case of cancer in chimney sweepers. Cancer was also caused by radiation, enviornmental toxins, and animal viruses.
There are more than 100 types of cancer. Cancer can start in 1 body system and spread to other parts of the body. Cancer is the 2nd deadliest disease in the world. Thousands of people die from cancer each year. Lung and bronchial is the deadliest type of cancer. It kills 792,495 people each year. Esophageal cancer is the 10th deadliest cancer, and it still kills 66,659 people each year.
Since there are so many different types of cancer, it is very challenging for doctors to find a cure for all of them. Doctors have found treatments to slow down the disease process. There is no guarentee that it will work on everyone. One of the treatments is called chemotherapy. Doctors are still testing and creating different types of cancer treatments.
Today, doctors and scientists work hard to see if they can unlock the cure to cancer. In the meantime, patients and doctors continue to fight the battle of cancer. They will never lose hope!
