Salmon's Week 3 Update

Reminder - No School Monday, September 18th!!
Overview
Science: We are finished with our unit on plants and starting up animals. Students should be familiar with the following vocabulary:
adaptations: how body parts or behaviors change or adapt to meet their needs of survival.
mimicry: copying another item in nature for defense or protection
camouflage: the ability to hide oneself within it own environment for protection.
Social Studies and the Southwest. We are reading about the Southwest and its unique land forms:
Buttes, Mesas and Plateaus
Writing: Paragraphs abound! We are working on writing complete paragraphs with a Topic Sentence, 3 Detail Sentences and a Conclusion. Students are working on identifying with color each of these sentence. Here is the code for our sentences:
topic = green
detail = red
conclusion = blue
Overview of Reading Work
Most students will finish this work prior to the end of the day, so you may not see these item(s) come home. If they have not completed it you should see a "HW" next to the item in their agenda.
Tuesday - Introduce grammar skill and practice reading skill in
Wednesday - Reading Skill Independent Practice and Vocabulary (worksheet) and Notebook
Thursday - Colored Reading Books and reading skill work
Friday - Reading Skill assessment along with vocabulary and word analysis.
In addition, students should be reading 5 nights a week (Sunday-Thursday) for 20 minutes.

Field Trip to MT Wild in Helena
Please make sure you child is dressed for the outside no matter the weather. If your child is bringing a lunch from home please include a snack for the bus ride home as well as plenty to drink. There will be bathrooms at MT Wild.

Reminder about Birthdays!
Thank you for understanding and it is not necessary to send in anything at all. We celebrate as a whole class by singing and giving out a small item to the Birthday Boy or Girl!
