PBIS at Home:
To help support Desert View’s PBIS, please review the behavior expectations with your child—Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe. Ask them what they did today to show that they were being respectful, responsible or safe at school.
A geography lesson with a bonus: learn why we wear green!
Kelso's Choice
Has your child mentioned Kelso’s Choice? This program is a conflict management system. Kelso’s Choice uses a frog puppet for lower grades in order teach children how to solve problems in a peaceful way. It also teaches kids what a minor or small problem is—problems they can handle on their own. Minor problems could include: feelings of annoyance, embarrassment, boredom, etc. Some of the options students can use for a small problem include:
· Ignore it,
· Walk away
· Apologize
· Make a deal
· Wait and cool off
· Talk it out
· Tell them to stop
Kelso’s Choice also teaches students what a major or big problem is, kids always need help with big problems. Which can include something that is dangerous, illegal, or scary.
