Minnewaska Area Middle School Newsletter
Principal's Corner
Welcome back, we're so excited you're here! This fall we're embarking on a new journey as Minnewaska Area Middle School. Although our name has changed, our rich tradition of providing a high quality education experience has not. Our staff has been planning and preparing for what the return to school will be and how we'll work to support every student, whether you choose to learn in person or from a distance.
In late July, Governor Walz laid the foundation for how we will return to school. As the Middle School, we encompass students who are represented in our elementary and secondary schools. Elementary students (K-6) will attend school In Person and Secondary students (7-12) will attend in our hybrid model. We may move in and out of learning models through the school year, depending on the COVID-19 data testing data in our county. When changes need to be made, we are required to give families 5 days notice.
In early August we reached out to all families to learn their intent to return to school. If we did not get a chance to talk with you, please call our school office. Should we not hear from you, we will assume your child will be returning to learning in person.
Today's newsletter has a lot of information in it, please take a minute to learn more as there are important dates and items you will want to know more about!
Just a reminder, school starts on September 1st!

Online Enrollment
Open House-August 26th
Our Open House will look and feel a little different this year. Teachers will have an online video message for all those who are comfortable learning about their teacher in this way.
Although we want to limit the families coming into our school, we recognize for some the traditional model of Open House will be beneficial. Should you choose to attend Open House, we have a schedule of when to attend by student's last name.
3:30-4:00 M-P
4:00-4:30 Q-T
4:30-5:00 U-Z
5:00-5:30 A-D
5:30-6:00 E-H
6:00-6:30 I-L
6:30-7:30 Open
School pictures are moved until September and we will be sharing that date soon.
What does Hybrid and A/B Days mean for 7th and 8th grade?
The 7th and 8th grade will participate in an A/B Schedule, allowing for 50% capacity at our 7-12. Students will attend school in person on 2 days and distantly 3 days. Students attending on an A Day will attend in person on Monday and Thursday. Students attending on a B Day will attend in person on Tuesday and Friday. All students will learn distantly on Wednesdays.
With all this said, on our short weeks of school (the first 2), we will not take Wednesdays as a Distance Learning Day. Instead, it will be a B-A-B-A schedule for week 1 and 2.
We will release the A/B groups on Tuesday, August 19th to parents. Please understand that these groups have been created to keep families together. I understand these group pairings won’t be ideal or perfect but we ask for your cooperation as we continue to move forward with our plan.
