Language Arts
Penny collections are due April 7th!
Our Hershey Company Rep came for a visit this morning, and the kids did a wonderful job! Mrs. Hutchison was so impressed with their letters, questions and behavior, and we could not be more proud! Prizes were given, treats were eaten and a lot of information was shared about the business world and how we can be successful in the future.
District Writing Assessments (DWA) has started so we are busy reading and debating: Should cell phones be allowed in schools? Next week we will begin crafting an argument-based essay that shows our position on this topic. We will be having a strong introduction, opinions/claims along with evidence and reasons. Their writing will be organized with transitional phrases and have a strong conclusion.
Math
On Monday, we will be wrapping up our long division unit with our final assessment. Students should take time this weekend to practice long division with decimals, using mental math with long division, and visually dividing decimals. The quiz that your child brought home this week should help with reviewing for the test.
Students will be taking time next week to reflect on Unit 5 by updating their goals and creating growth mindsets. In addition, they will begin Unit 6 with a pre-test. The actual study of Unit 6 will start after Spring Break.
Social Studies
Through a town meeting simulation, students began to understand how the various colonial classes affected decisions made in colonies. Next week, students will be taking a test on the 13 Colonies where they will be asked about the geography, economy, and government of the New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies. In addition, they will use their knowledge of the Social Classes to match a social class with a particular quote.
