Magic Club!
This week students had the opportunity to attend a performance from Magic Mike in the PAC on Wednesday. The interactive show highlighted different styles of magic tricks. Everyone was eager to volunteer on stage. Magic Mike is ready to lead a magic club at Leland using a recognized curriculum from Discover Magic (https://www.discovermagic.com/ - check out the "Learn About Discover Magic" for info and video intros). Enrollment will be limited to a MAXIMUM of 10 students and the club will run for 8 weeks this spring. Mr Peschel (mpeschel@lelandschool.com) will help organize interested students by sending out a Google Survey to everyone grades 5-8.
9th Grade Spanish Hosts a Food Fiesta!
"We are celebrating the end of our unit ¡A comer! Students learn how to comment on the different meals of the day and make polite requests to ask for something in a restaurant. Each student brought in a dish inspired by a Spanish-speaking country to share with their classmates. We had churros, flan, tacos, guacamole, empanadas, and horchata to name a few. It was delicious!" - Mrs. Proctor

Move This World - Social Emotional Learning
Dear Families,
To support our students’ social emotional needs and mental health, we are using a video-based social emotional learning (SEL) curriculum from Move This World. I’m excited to share that you’ll be able to access this helpful curriculum at home, too!
Social emotional learning is how students learn to process and manage emotions as well as important social skills. It includes everything from goal setting to stress management, and it provides both children and adults with tools they can use to express themselves authentically and safely. SEL helps students build healthy relationships, communicate effectively, and live a meaningful life.
Below, you’ll find log in instructions:
Visit: sel.movethisworld.com

Practicing social emotional learning at home can help your students:
Identity and recognize their emotions.
Build critical social skills.
Connect with themselves and others.
Navigate challenges they may be experiencing.
Adjust to the new school year.
Move This World is a social emotional learning program delivered through an extensive online library of PreK-12 videos and resources rooted in creative expression that help students, teachers and staff develop a common language to improve communication and build trust. We’re so glad that you’ll be able to access Move This World videos and resources at home, and hope they are helpful for your students and family.
Learn more about how it works here.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions!

LPS Families can support one another by donating to the LPS "Angel" Account
After two years of all students being allowed to eat school meals for free, due to COVID, the USDA removed the waiver and families that don’t meet strict income thresholds are now responsible for paying for their meals again. Many families are facing growing negative account balances, and simply do not have the means to pay for their children’s breakfasts and lunches.
Leland Public School’s Food Service Department has an Angel Account set up for anyone who would like to make a donation to help students with meal debt. With your help, we know that we can make a big difference! By making an anonymous monetary donation to the Angel Account, you would become one of our angels, and make a difference in the life of a student today.
Donating is simple:
1. Go to https://leland.familyportal.cloud/
2. Click “my account,” and log in with your email address and password. If you do not have a family portal account follow the prompts to set one up.
3. Under “My Account” click “Add Person”
4. ID Number: 7777
First Name: Account
Last Name: Angel
Birthdate: 01/01/2020
5. Under “My Account” click “Deposit” and follow the prompts.
The funds will immediately be available for the food service department to disperse to those families in the most need.
We can also take a cash or check (made payable to Leland Public School) donation that can be dropped off at the main office.
The food service department sends you a big THANK YOU for considering helping our students in need.
