Parent Update
Watch us SOAR!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Next week is an unusual week at Clough! We have one full day of school on Monday, Nov. 7. Then we have a half day on Tuesday and teachers have professional development in the afternoon. We have half days on Wednesday and Thursday as well so that parents and teachers can attend conferences in the afternoons/evening. Students will be dismissed at 12:05 on each of those three half days. There will be no PM PK classes on those three days. And then Friday, in honor of Veteran's Day, there will be no school.
We are going to have a Cardboard Creation Day on Wednesday, Nov. 9! During specials time, the whole grade will come into the gym and have a chance to create whatever they want with cardboard! We would love to have 5 parent volunteers for each grade who can come in and help during the 30 minute special time. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up here.
On Thursday, we are going to have a Play Day during the half day of school! There is a global movement that started many years ago called Global Play Day. You can read more about it here. It happens in February in schools across the world. But play and playful learning is so important; I don't think it should only happen once a year for our kids. So we are going to do a Play Day at Clough on Thursday, Nov. 10! Students are able to bring in games and toys from home...as long as they can carry it in their backpacks or bags on the bus. They will bring their toys and games home at the end of the day. The only rule on a play day is no devices! We will not be playing on iPads or using electronic toys. The kids will have a chance to play with each other in their classrooms for the whole block of time. Whenever I do play days with students, I love to hear from the teachers about what we observe happening throughout the day! We see kids building new friendships, collaborating, problem solving, taking on leadership roles, maintaining focus, engaging in dialogue, writing, solving math problems, designing and creating...I can't wait to share with all of you all the amazing observations that we make after our first play day!
Mark your calendars for the next PTO meeting. It will take place Tuesday night, Nov. 15, at 6:30pm in the library. We will be leading a conversation around school safety. Officer Sinko, Lauren Poxon, and I will be sharing information about school safety and explaining ALICE protocols and training.
Sincerely,
Liz Garden
