Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
August 31, 2019
Unfortunately, the entire Marian Community had a very trying week. Administration appreciates how professionally you handled the environment and disseminating necessary information. Your support for our students is exemplar... whether it is in the thick of difficulty or on a daily basis. As the Friday afternoon letter to the community stated, Administration is currently reviewing policies and procedures in order to find what works and what needs improvement. We are a team... every member of the Staffulty, so if you have any constructive suggestions we would be open to your vision as well. Feel free to reach out to one of the Administration... Mr. DeFrisco, Mr. Shukis, Father Twenty, Ms. Novy, and Mr. J. Price. We want to ensure that today, tomorrow, and in the future, we have a safe, secure community. Christ lives at Marian...
This year's Back to School Night went very well. We had quite a few families here running through their students' schedules to find out what their classes were all about. Thanks to all the teachers who did a great job sharing their class objectives, policies, and procedures. Parents walked out very happy with what they heard!
Best laid plans.... we were able to have our junior and sophomore class masses this week as planned... and they were wonderful. It was also exciting when those juniors who ordered, received their class rings... blessed by Father Twenty.
Unfortunately the senior mass had to be rescheduled. Senior class mass will be this Thursday, September 5 at 12:10 pm. Please make sure you take attendance in your classes first. Teachers with complete senior classes, please come down to help supervise. Mixed grade level classes, please send your seniors down. Mass should end by 12:25 and you should expect students to be back in your class soon after.
Finally, I just have to say WOW! What a football game Friday night! Not only did we have an amazing crowd filled with school spirit, but after Marian's first field goal, Marian was able to hold the line and take the win against Johnsburg at 3 - 0! If you missed the game, try to come to the next one! I have a feeling that this is going to be a great season!
What's coming up?
Wednesday, Sept. 4 Late Start
- In preparation for our first PLC meetings of the year, I have reshared all of the 2019-20 department PLC minutes folders to all of the department heads.
- Please click here for the morning's agenda. Please remember that we will be starting promptly at 7:30 am in the cafeteria, and that once you are released to your PLC rooms, all members are required to actively attend their team's meeting.
- Late Start meetings are from 7:30 to 9:30 am, afterwhich all staff should be outside their classrooms for hall supervision. Classes begin at 9:45 am.
Evacuation Drill, Thursday, September 5 @ 9:00 am
This Thursday is our first Evacuation (fire) Drill. If you did not already, please print out ALL of your class rosters. A suggestion is to put them into a plastic page protector and use a clasp or ring to attach them to your red & green cards so you can grab them all at once.
Please review these procedures so the drill is efficient and we can evacuate the building as quickly as possible. Procedures for evacuation are posted in each classroom, as well as below.
When an alarm sounds:
1. Proceed in single file to assigned area. (see pages 49-51 in Faculty Handbook for proper exit and area for your particular classroom)
2. Maintain complete silence.
3. Move quickly but do not run.
4. Close windows and doors. Turn off lights.
5. Teacher is last out. Take class roster and RED/GREEN laminated status room cards with you.
6. The first person reaching the building exit door holds the door open until the building is evacuated.
7. Once outside move 50 feet or more away from the building to designated area. Students should line up in single file by room for roll call.
8. Once roll is taken, immediately display either GREEN room card (if all students are accounted for) or RED room card (if a student is missing).
** Once the all clear is called, classes will be instructed by the immediate supervisor of that area to go back into the building in an orderly fashion and resume classes. It is also suggested that you retake roll after you are back in class to make sure all students are again accounted for.
**Please check your room plastic wall file for red & green cards with your room number on them. If you are missing one or both, please contact Mr. Price BEFORE Thursday.
2018-19 Yearbook Distribution
Publications will be distributing yearbooks on Friday, September 6th during 9th hour. Pubs students have separated yearbook orders by your 9th hour roster so they will be coming to your classrooms and distributing the yearbooks to those that ordered and paid for them. Their interruption should be short and sweet. Please, if a student thought they had ordered/paid for one but did not receive them, have the student(s) go down to the main office at the end of the day... do NOT have them address the Pubs students about it, as they have little time to get to all of the classes.
Remember, the class of 2023 freshmen will not be receiving them...(they weren't here!)
Have a great week!
Congratulations to Emily!
When you see her, please congratulate her! This is truly the theater student's version of an athletic state berth... an outstanding accomplishment!
