Stay the Course (April 26)
"If it doesn't challenge you it won't change you." - Fred DeVito
These past several weeks there have been days I've taken a ride on an emotional roller coaster. Outwardly I have done my best to be positive and even keel. But inside...
The weird thing is, the roller coaster seems so random. Days will go by and everything feels okay. But then my mind jumps. This is the roller coaster. Personally my issue is when I begin to create a list. A list of things to do, what's coming up, or problems to solve.
If you're anything like me you've also experienced some of these ups and downs.
I don't have a perfect answer to take all the emotional stuff away, but I'm here to share, 'you are doing really well. How do I know?
I see you.
I see you reading books to your class.
I see you making fun videos.
I see you collaborating with your peers.
I see you shutting down your room.
I see you delivering goodies to a friend/colleague.
I see you checking in on each other.
I see you delivering to your families.
I see you sending letters to our kids.
I see you going on home visits.
I see you answering ALL those emails.
I see teaching on Zoom.
I see you calling families.
I see you reflecting on ways it can be better.
I see you handing out food.
I see you personalizing packets.
I see you worrying about your kids.
I'm here to tell you, stay the course. You're doing a good job for your students and families. Some days it might not feel like it, but you are. Little things can make a big impact.
As you begin the final week of April I encourage you with three things:
- Stay the Course!
- Remember...vulnerability is a strength, not a weakness.
- Take time for you.
