The Eagle Express
September 10th, 2017
From Your Plank South Leadership Team
We hope you all had a wonderful first week back! It was truly a joyful first week here at Plank South and a wonderful start to the new school year!
For those of you who are new, each week we send out our Eagle Express Newsletter with some updates for the week including what is happening around Plank South, PTSA updates, and flyers from outside organizations. In addition to the communication directly from your child's teacher, it is the primary way we communicate with you about both what is coming up and what has happened the past week at Plank South.
It is also really important to read through the PTSA message each week. For example, this week it has great information on how to get Spirit Wear, the upcoming PTSA Coat Swap, the PTSA Fund Raiser, upcoming events, and volunteer opportunities! In order to provide student assemblies, events like the Back to School Social, and opportunities for kids like our after school clubs/activities it is really important that families take part in the fundraiser and also consider volunteering to help or lead! Thanks for continuing to help out so we can provide these amazing opportunities for our kids!!!
Enjoy the beautiful weekend and we look forward to our first full week with your child next week!
Warm Regards,
Your Plank South Leadership Team
Scott Wilcox & Jen Sullivan

From our Fabulous PTSA!!!
Hi everyone! Hope that you all had a great start to the 2017 – 2018 school year. Here’s what’s happening with the Plank South PTSA. Thank you for your help and support!
First PTSA Meeting – Tuesday, 9/12 at 7:00 PM
Please join us for our first PTSA meeting of the year! This meeting will be held in the Cafeteria (instead of the Think Tank Room, as previously advertised). Attending PTSA meetings is a great way to keep up with what’s happening at our school from the PTSA perspective, hear from the Board of Education and our school administration. It’s also where your voice can be heard! We hope you can join us. Look for an agenda soon on our website, here.
“Save Around Town – Rochester” Coupon Book Sales Have Begun!
Your child (or oldest child, if you have more than one student at Plank South) should have come home yesterday with an order envelope and a coupon book. Time to get those sales going!
This fundraiser is the PTSA’s ONLY fundraiser and the proceeds allow us to fund most of our activities throughout the year.
Many organizations offer this coupon book so please get the word out to your family and friends as early as possible. You might not know that we can also sell coupon books for other cities!
There are some great prizes being offered, including a new prize level – the chance to win a 32” LED flat screen TV!
If you have any questions regarding the Coupon Books, please email Nicole Mau (nmau@rochester.rr.com) or Lisa Hilfiker (dhilfiker@frontiernet.net).
Webster Central PTSA Coat Swap – Saturday, 9/16 9:00am – 1:00pm
Are your kids outgrowing their clothes faster than you can replace them? Swap outgrown coats and concert attire for ones that fit!
Drop off clean donations in good condition to boxes at any Webster school by 9/14, or bring them to the event at Spry on 9/16. Swing by the event to score new-to-you items that fit! Our collection box is in the lobby at Plank South.

Family Math Resources!
As we start the new year, we want to make sure you all are familiar with where to find Elementary Math Resources for Parents. Our kids really do have a better understanding of and interest in math than most parents did at the same age, largely because of the focus on conceptual understanding over just plugging numbers into formulas, but it is sometimes hard to know how to support kids at home.
If you are looking for Math Resources to support you or your child you can either go directly to this link or access the resources through our www.websterschools.org site (WebsterSchools.org org > Departments (at the top)> Office of Instruction > Elementary Math Resources)
This site is broken down by grade specific resources and includes the following for each grade level. It includes...
- Student workbook pages and answers.
- Accessible Algorithms explaining how and why kids learning math the way they do- very helpful for parents!
- Family Letters and Unit Overviews for each unit with an explanation of what your child will be learning.
- Research and Math Background explaining the research behind how units were created.
- External Links with a list of sites that can help both with re-teaching concepts or providing enrichment for students.
Honestly, this site is pretty awesome, so we highly recommend bookmarking and perusing when you get the chance!
Flyers, Flyers, Flyers!!!
- PTSA Coat Swap! You can donate or trade in your old coats for new-to-you items!
- Pack 463 (Plank South Boy Scouts)! Info & joining session 9/21, 6:30 @ Plank South
