The continental league attempted to obtain membership within organized baseball's existing organization and acceptance within MLB. The league ended August 1960 with not a single game played but it did accelerate the expansion of Major League Baseball.
A movie was even made regarding the continental league.
Although the Continental League may not have been the only factor that forced the MLB to expand, but it was undoubtedly a factor that sped the expansion up by several years. The Continental League was a useful and productive organization.
