STUDENT GROWTH AND ACHIEVEMENT
SLO and more data check... have students made at least one year's growth in one year's time? Check reading levels and STAR math performance. If ALL students have not made 0.5 year's growth, then what can you change... the approach, the target skill(s), the communication with home? Drilling down to target skills for instruction? Look more closely at CDT and PVAAS results. Want to discuss? Let me know.
REMINDERS
Save-the-Dates: GLM will take place during the week of February 3. The purpose of the meetings will be to look at tier groupings with our Title team and IST. Data will be shared in your grade level Google Drive folder ahead of time.
Save-the-Date: Data Day will be on Monday, February 10 in the Science Lab. We will be following the same schedule as the fall data day. The focus will be on ELA interventions. Math and behavior will be discussed at another time.
CLIMATE AND CULTURE
COMMUNICATION HIGHLIGHT
Do you have a professional Twitter account? If so, remember to tag the trend #WeLoveEastVincent because it will allow others to find your post more easily.
Top 3 Benefits of Using Twitter
1. Parents, colleagues and supervisors (like Dr. Lloyd) can SEE all the amazing, positive things your students and you are doing at EV.
2. You can "steal' ideas from other OJRSD colleagues... I was reminded of this when I saw the "Starbucks Mode" tweets from Tori and Terri this week. Haven't seen it? Check out their idea!
3. There are endless professional development articles, resources, blogs, chats on Twitter. The resources are often quick, easy reads and may inspire an activity or discussion.
Want to learn more? A quick glimpse of some colleagues who use Twitter...
Recaps of the week, activities - Jaime Garman and Donna Serfass
Connecting with students - Jess Bennick and Michelle Riggs
Sharing resources - Chrissie Quinn and Amy DePaul
A peek at instruction - Meredith Gallo, Tori DeCesare, Steph Seuffert
Thank you to these and other colleagues who tweet to the Twitter world!
WELCOME AND BEST WISHES
Best wishes to Doug Rowley and Jess Bennick as they transition from their first semester positions.
Welcome back to Steph Laubenstein who will transition with Jess from Tuesday-Thursday.
Welcome to Steve Grohman or Mr. G to East Vincent Elementary School. Steve joins us from Rose Tree Media School District where he served in a health and PE middle school temporary assignment. He student taught at West Vincent Elementary School with Mark Hineman. He transitioned with Doug last week and his first day solo is on Tuesday.
MID-YEAR MEETINGS
This year, I will schedule or have scheduled mid-year meetings with non-tenured or new OJRSD faculty only.
If you'd like to meet for a mid-year meeting, please let me know and we'll get together before the end of this month.
BLACK STUDENT UNION MENTORING PROGRAM
As I shared at the GLM for grades 3-6 on Thursday...
Members of the Owen J. Roberts High School Black Student Union (BSU) will join students at East Vincent Elementary School at least twice per month for an after-school mentoring program. The program will include skill building, team activities, sports, board games, and arts and crafts activities all planned by the high school mentors. The purpose of the mentoring program is to foster positive relationships among our Owen J. Roberts School District students and to provide a safe space for them to do so.

Start Date: Monday, January 27, 2020
Specific future dates TBD but will take place on Mondays
Time: 3:15-4:15
Grades: 5-6
Transportation will be provided.
Would you like to help? Send an e-mail to Christine by January 31.
*This will take the place of REACH. Staff can work once or more than once. We will have a total number of hours available to be paid at the curriculum rate. An online sign-up will be available after all staff are board approved in February.
KFC - KIDS FOR CHANGE
As I shared at the GLM for grades 3-6 on Thursday...
Grown from a small meeting with student voices on SEL with Thom Stecher and Associates, I'd like to move forward with a student leadership group that parallels the work of our BLT and PAC. The student group will focus on building goals, decision making, and data review.
KFC - Kids for Change
Named by sixth-grade student Danny Walker (since he likes fried chicken), the Kids for Change leadership group will be comprised of one student from each HR in grades 3-5. The existing two sixth grade students and one fifth grade student from the student voices on SEL will remain (Danny, Claire Loiacano, and Avery Massey). The selected student must be leader, unafraid to think outside-of-the-box, and share ideas with a positive voice.
Grade 3-5 teachers: Submit your student's name to Christine by Friday, January 24.
