Principal's Message
TJ Community:
What a great first week of school! I hope you and your child(ren) also felt the same way all of us do at TJ. TJ has the best students, the best staff, and the best parents. On behalf of the TJ staff, I want to thank you for your patience as we make adjustments to any of our routines and/or schedules.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the school. 847.963.5400.
Sincerely,
Dr. Sasso
Entrance and Exit Procedures
Next week the teachers will not be meeting their students outside. Students will enter through the main front doors when the doors open at 7:35. There will still be adults directing students into the building but the teachers will be in their classroom.
There a few VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDERS I want to make sure everyone is aware of which will help with the entrance and exit procedures.
You will start to notice more cars in the car line dropping off their child. To be efficient and avoid backups in the line, please pull all the way up to the front of the school before letting your child out at the curb. We ask that you also let your child out of the car on the passenger side. Finally, please do not leave your car unattended while in the car line.
I know some parents enjoy walking your child and waiting until they go into the school and we encourage you to do that if you like, but we ask that you DO NOT park in the staff parking lot. There are too many cars coming into the lot during arrival and dismissal and I don’t want anyone walking between cars. I have already seen some near accidents and I do not want anyone to get hurt. Instead you can park on the neighborhood streets and use the crossing guard to cross Winston Drive to get to the front of the school.
Please note, it's also illegal to be on your phone while driving near any school.
If someone else drives or picks up your child, please share these expectations with them. We all want the best for our students, so please follow these expectations to help everyone stay safe at these busy times.
Breakfast at TJ
TJ will continue to provide free breakfast for any student who would like it. Students who ride the bus are directed by the staff in the back to come right into the school through the back door to get their breakfast.
If you drop off your child or they walk to school, they should come into the school through the front doors after 7:35 and go straight to the cafeteria to get their breakfast.

We Need Your Help to Keep Everyone Healthy
We need your help keeping our students healthy. Please read this letter for information explaining when you should keep your student home.
To clarify, the only students who will stream into classes this year are students the school nurse has identified as a close contact or if our school nurse has received medical documentation that a student has been identified as a close contact or has a positive diagnosis of COVID.
Students will not be able to stream into a class for any other reason.
If a student meets any of this criteria. he/she will be able to attend class virtually if they are healthy enough to do so. The child's teacher will contact the parent and let them know when the concurrent learning will start. Our goal is to have students be able to stream into the class virtually the next school day. But please know, sometimes there may be a need to set do some technology set up, or we will need to get certain materials to the student for them to use while they are in quarantine.
Parent Orientation is Next Week
Next Thursday, August 26th is our Parent Orientation Night. We have divided up grade levels, to help families that have more than one child at TJ. The schedule is as follows:
6:00-6:30 p.m.
Grades 3 and 4 Music, PE, and Art
6:35-7:05 p.m.
Grades 5 and 6 Reading Specialist
Special Education and Bilingual Resource teachers
7:10-7:40 p.m.
Grades K through 2
This night is a great opportunity for your child’s teacher to share valuable information about their expectations for the school year. You will be able to see the classroom and learn about what your child will be doing this year.
I also wanted you to know that the time is limited so the teacher may not have an opportunity to open up the meeting to questions. We do however; want to make sure we are responsive to any parent questions, so if you have a questions that do not get answered, please feel free to follow up with an email.
Finally, I ask that everyone please be respectful of the teacher and other parent’s time. We need to end each session on time so parents can join other grade level meetings for other children. I know my teachers are excited to share the exciting activities they have planned for your child and they look forward to meeting all of you.
