Counselor's Corner
Hello again, I hope most of have seen a photo/ video of me by now. As the counselor here I will be doing regular Counselor Corner articles in the Eagle Beat covering a wide array of topics within my area. Whether you were in school or virtual last year, we have all had a long summer in all different parts of the world. Readjusting to school life can be difficult for everyone, including your teachers! The need for a proper nighttime and morning routine is crucial in ensuring you are well-rested, energized, and prepared for school each and every day.
You may wonder why you’re having trouble falling asleep and waking up well-rested in the morning and staying alert and focused throughout the day. Well, rest assured that organizing your schedules so that you are falling asleep and waking up at the same time each day can help alleviate your daytime grogginess. It is recommended that you get at least eight hours of sleep each night, although many individuals may need more! It’s almost impossible for us to tell our bodies to sleep and then instantly fall asleep and then wake up exactly when we want to. However, by getting into bed and out of bed at the same time every day we actually train our bodies to do the work for us! Once you get into a proper routine, your body's natural circadian rhythm will keep you on track.
MSA Planning Committee
As many of you know, BIS is proudly accredited through the Middle States Association. The process has evolved so that all QSI schools are now being accredited as part of a single system. According to MSA:
A required component of the protocol is the establishment of a school level Planning Team that reflects the community of stakeholders at both the system and component school levels.
The primary functions of the school level Planning Team are to:
Develop the vision for the school by reaffirming the statement of Mission;
Conduct periodic reviews of the progress being made towards achieving the improvement objectives.
Teachers, administration and staff are a part of this team. Parents and students are important stakeholders in this school, though, so we need to include your voices. Any parent or Secondary I-IV student interested in joining this important process can email Tim Ulrich at tim-ulrich@baku.qsi.org to volunteer or request more information.
This year we will have one meeting in early October to review and discuss the Mission, the Action Plans, and our adherence to MSA’s 12 Standards. We will then meet annually in late May to review the progress made during each school year.
There are no obligations outside of this, though we may provide you with a bit of reading prior to the meetings. We hope that our volunteers will remain on the team for the duration of their time at BIS. Even if you know you’ll only be here for a year, though, we still welcome you to join.

COVID Positive Cases on Campus
If your child is sick and tests positive for COVID please notify Sevda right away. The earlier in the day the better, since we will need to send out notifications of class closures right away. We appreciate everyone's cooperation, as sometimes we don't know of a positive case until late into the evening.
The procedures for Suspected and Confirmed cases are below.
Virtual Open House
The BIS Administration will also have a Zoom Room open if you have questions.

Want to stay connected with BIS?
BIS WhatsApp Group
This group will be used strictly to communicate general information from BIS to parents. Announcements, updates, reminders, and the weekly newsletter will be sent via this group.
The group is set up as a one-way communication tool, so participants only receive messages but can not respond in the group. This allows BIS to communicate information without the distraction of numerous responses.
