Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District
January 10, 2020
A message from the Superintendent
Dear Parents and Patrons,
At their December meeting, the Board of Education accepted the 2018-2019 (FY 19)Annual Audit from Gerding Korte & Chitwood CPA’s. Again this year the Audit was unqualified or a ‘clean audit’ meaning there were no recommendations or specific items to correct. A complete Audit and Audit Communications letter are posted at https://tinyurl.com/yc3ehyzq. As one might expect both documents contain significant information.
The Audit Communications letter is a basic document indicating there are no deficiencies considered to be material weaknesses and district prepared information was readily available when needed.
Viewing the actual Financial report can be a bit more daunting; however, the items below might be of interest.
Pages 4-10, the Management Discussion, provides the district financial overview of the audit year.
Page 14, is an overview of all funds, expenses, and revenue. Of note is the Operating Fund revenue exceeded expenditures by and $2,174,486 was paid to retire debt.
Page 44, provides detail for all revenue sources in all funds.
Page 45, provided detail for all expenditure sources in all funds.
Audit Note 4 indicates outstanding debt of $6,697,425 yet the District upon patron approval has the capacity to borrow an additional $27,426,746.
Audit Note 13 documents that $134,060 is the amount of abated taxes that provide the City of Fulton projects.
Maintaining financial integrity is challenging every day. Your District staff works hard to ensure the accountability of all financial transactions and safeguard your tax dollars. As previously indicated, the Audit is available online or a copy may be viewed in the Central Office.
Questions regarding District finances or the current audit may be directed to me by phone or electronic mail. We sincerely appreciate your continued support!
Thank you for sending great students for us to work with!
Sincerely,
Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.
