7th Grade Science-Open Tree Map Collaborative
Lenape 7th Grade Science students contributed to an “Open Tree Map collaborative” by participating in a citizen science project “Philly Tree Map.” Citizen Science allows individuals to directly contribute their own findings to large scale projects, and in turn, makes them more aware of the importance of science and gain understanding of urban forestry with current mapping. Lenape students measured the circumference of a tree, found the species of the tree, and directly contributed the science data for our Doylestown area. The results are shown on the map below. Students helped to inventory urban trees, learn about environmental benefits trees provide and explore nature.
Free Breakfast & Lunch Each Day
Please remind your child(ren) that all students are entitled to a free breakfast and lunch each day. Breakfast is available each morning until 7:30 in the cafeteria and outside of the auditorium. Grab and go lunches are available every day in the cafeteria during dismissal. It is our hope that all students take advantage of these nutritious (and free!) meals!
CB Votes! 2020
The 2020 Presidential General Election is quickly approaching, and one of our goals is to get students involved and excited about civic engagement. Through our schools, students will discover how government and politics affect their lives. They will gain knowledge of how citizens can make their voices heard in our democracy and experience the power of their votes.
Together, we can inspire a new generation to become more active in the political process.
The Social Studies and Instructional Technology Departments has collaborated to give K-12 students lessons about civics, voting, the electoral college and elections, which culminates in students taking part in CB’s mock election held on Friday, October 30th.
The students had the opportunity to cast their votes virtually for the next President of the United States and the US House of Representatives (PA District 1) through Microsoft Forms. After the results come in and are compiled, we will share them with students on November 2nd.
We are very excited to offer CB Votes as a mock voting experience. It is an excellent opportunity for students to engage in the democratic process.

Supporting Learning at Home
The Child Mind Institute is a non-profit to support learning at home.
Guidance Discussion Groups
Students completed a quick survey indicating their interest in potential guidance discussion groups. We are currently reviewing student’s responses. We plan to organize as many groups as is feasible. Parents/guardians of students with a strong interest will receive an email with a general description of the group. If you do not wish to have your student participate, please reply by email to the facilitator.
Students in 7th and 8th grade also indicated their hobbies and interests which are not already supported by a sport, class, or club. The idea behind that part of the survey is to figure out a way to connect the students based on their interest. It has been difficult for students to connect with other students. In the past these connections would have likely happened organically at school. We are going to repost the survey for 7th and 8th graders who submitted their survey before indicating their interests.
Career and Community Spotlights
Lenape Guidance is planning Live Speaker Events on Teams spotlighting several careers and community resources.
Stay tuned!
News From the Nurse - 7th Grade Immunizations
This is another reminder about 7th grade immunizations. All 7th graders are mandated by PA state to have both a Tdap and Meningococcal vaccine. These vaccines are due by November 8TH, 2020. Students who do not meet the state mandate for both the Tdap and MCV vaccines by the November 8th deadline, are at risk for school exclusion starting November 9th. If your child has a scheduled appointment to receive the vaccines, please share that date with the nurses office to avoid a potential exclusion from school. If you have questions regarding this policy, please contact the health office at (267) 893-2840.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
Starting Monday November 2nd through Friday November 13th, we will be collecting food items to help support our Lenape community for Thanksgiving! Each team has been assigned specific food items to collect. Boxes will be spread throughout the school and we encourage dropping off food items before school, during snack, or at dismissal. Students who are virtual who wish to be a part of the food drive can do so by bringing food donation items on November 10th, which is scheduled to be Material Pick Up day. There will be a box outside for donations and staff will be helping collect items.
We are grateful for all donations and appreciate your participation!

Veterans Day - Reminder
We are saddened that we are unable to hold our usual Veterans Day assembly this year. However, the Lenape History Corps is putting together lessons and resources so that we can still recognize and teach students about this important holiday.
We would like to feature videos of Lenape students' family members who have served or are currently serving.
If you are interested, please prepare a 2-3 minute video that includes:
- Your name, background, and connection to the community
- Any military experiences/highlights
- What Veterans Day means to you
If you are interested in contributing a video, please e-mail it to email Gabby Feliciani at gfeliciani@cbsd.org.

Attendance - Reminder
- Hybrid Students - In Person Days: If a student should be physically present in the building and staying home, we do need this communication to come from the parents or guardians. Please email our attendance office at lenapeattendance@cbsd.org. It is important for us to be able to account for all students for safety reasons. If a student is not in school (but even attending online) the initial absence code will be “absent” until we have a communication from parents. The attendance code will be changed to VP (Virtual Present) once we have the communication from the parent/guardian. We do ask for the communication in advance of the absence so teachers are aware. It also ensures that parents and guardians are aware that the student is at home and has permission.
- Online Students - Students all Virtual or Hybrid Students on Virtual Days: If a student does not attend class, the student will be marked absent unexcused until we receive communication from parents. If a student logs on but stops engaging in the class, their attendance code will be changed to VC (Virtual Cut).
