Hello Lion Families!

It was great to celebrate the Q1 milestones with each of the grade levels. Not only were scholars recognized for their past achievements, but they had a chance to get grounded in the focus and effort it will take to hit the mile markers ahead in Quarter Two. Monday and Tuesday will be regular full days, with Tuesday being a dress-down day (no theme). Thanksgiving break will begin Wednesday, with classes resuming next Monday, November 28th.

• Scholars must have snow boots AND pants to play in the grassy area. Otherwise they must stay on the blacktop.
• No climbing on snow banks higher than approximately 3 feet.
• Absolutely no throwing snow.
• Hang up scholar snow gear so it dries after they return inside.
• Remember that scholars only have indoor recess if the temperature is 15 degrees or lower.

In a community building circle, scholars share all their response to a question while they are holding the talking piece. Here are a few sample questions teachers ask to build relationships among classmates.

1. Would you rather captain a submarine or fly a plane?
2. What is your favorite animal?
3. When do you feel embarrassed?
4. What makes you feel really happy?
5. Would you rather take a trip to the beach or go camping in the woods?

I would like to give a shout-out to our TLA families for helping in supporting our goal of 95% or higher attendance for our scholars. This first quarter we had 330 out of 514 scholars with 95% or higher attendance. With it being cold and flu season this was an amazing accomplishment!

Studies confirm a powerful link between attendance and academic success in school. To give scholars the best opportunity to reach their potential both academically and socially, they must attend school regularly.

We honored our scholars' success with an ATTEN-DANCE celebration in which scholars received snacks, juice, and lots of fun and dancing in the gym. Once again I would like to extend my gratitude to the families of TLA for helping in supporting us in our efforts to be the premier K4-12 school not only in the state, but the NATION!!!! THANK YOU.

Middle school: We are so proud of every scholar's hard work over the course of the “Glow Up”. TLA would like to congratulate all middle school scholars with two or less infractions. November 22nd at 1:00-3:00 pm these scholars will be attending our middle school incentive bowling trip. The school will be paying for the shoes and the games. Your scholars will be eating before they leave. If your scholars wants to purchase anything at the bowling alley please provide them with the money.

High School: On November 10th during our morning assembly we discussed the recent tardies that have taken place during WIN time. After one week we have seen a decrease in tardies. Your scholars have been doing a great job getting to class on time and using their communication skills to inform their teachers on where they are going.

This week in Animal Science we are studying genetics and biotechnology. Scholars had the opportunity to discuss genetic variation and heredity in organisms. We also had a visiting animal, Bimo, the dwarf rabbit.

This week in Biology, scholars are continuing their study of the cell. They completed a lab making wet mount slides and looking at them under the microscope. Scholars compared plant and animal cells and identified the observable structures of the cells. We enjoyed the opportunity!

Today in physical science scholars completed a lab called Causing Friction. They applied the law of conservation of energy to their investigation by making predictions, observations, collecting data, and analyzing the data to draw conclusions about potential and kinetic energy.

First quarter flew by quickly. We are now in the second quarter which promises to be another

time of fun and musical learning for scholars. Check out what your scholar has started learning

this quarter. This document highlights the music activities for each grade band - K4/K5, 1st &

2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, 6th & 7th Grade, 8th Grade, MS Music Producers, and HS Music

Engineers classes.

We have started preparation for the upcoming TLA Elementary Winter Sing. This is scheduled for

December 15, 2022 with a family performance. Additional information about the performance

will be shared soon through the TLA parent newsletter.

Here is the outline of what specific classrooms are doing in music this quarter.

November

Wright World Sports has been made aware of our Winter Spirit Week. They will be restocking over the Thanksgiving weekend for parents to come in for easy cash and carry items; however, parents may want to place orders online to ensure their desired style and size is ready.

Also, if anyone wants an item(s) by December 23rd for possible Christmas gifts, all orders are due by December 16th.
