HIstory
Clarissa Harlowe Barton was 60 when she founded the Red Cross. She had witnessed first hand the battlefield when she was a nurse in the Civil War.

Clara Barton placed the injured in order from the severely wounded to the routine wounded, such as a putting a bandage on someone.
What the Red Cross Did for War
The Red Cross made the hospitals on the battlefield cleaner. This reduced the number of infections and deaths caused by the sanitary issues in the hospitals.
About Clara
Clara was a well educated women. She started teaching at a school in New Jersey when she was 15. When a male was hired to take her place she quit before they could fire her. Then after a year of unemployment she went into the government. There she realized her dream to aid soldiers in war.
