Our Mission:

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

Thank you for a great first week back. I hope everyone had a chance to spend time with family. I was pleased with the back to work attitude that everyone had. I was especially pleased with the effort and attitude of our fifth grade students as they took the M-STEP test. This test is new for all of us and it was great to see their cooperation and commitment to do their best. At our professional development late start, teachers investigated and collaborated on science instruction. I am looking forward to seeing many of you at the Daddy Daughter Dance tonight. Have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jason Parrott

News and Notes

EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE ON TUESDAY, MAY 5, 2015

PROPOSAL 1- SUPPORTED BY THE STATE PTA, ALL LOCAL PTA UNITS AND THE ROYAL OAK SCHOOL BOARD.*

The following is the Proposal as it will appear on the ballot:

A proposal to amend the State Constitution to increase the sales/use tax from 6% to 7% to replace and supplement reduced revenue to the School Aid Fund and local units of government caused by the elimination of the sales/use tax on gasoline and diesel fuel for vehicles operating on public roads and to give effect to laws that provide additional money for roads and other transportation purposes by increasing the gas tax and vehicle registration fees.

The proposed constitutional amendment would:

  • Eliminate sales/use taxes on gasoline/diesel fuel for vehicles on public roads.
  • Increase portion of use tax dedicated to School Aid Fund (SAF)
  • Expand use of School Aid fund to community colleges and career/technical education, and
  • Prohibit use for 4 year colleges/universities
  • Give effect to laws, including those that;
1. Increase sales/use tax 7% as authorized by constitutional amendment.

2. Increase gasoline/diesel fuel and adjust annually for inflation and other

transportation purposes.

3. Expand competitive bidding and warranties for road projects.

4. Increase earned income tax credit

Should this proposal be adopted?

Yes

No

*With the passage of this proposal, 100% of school aid revenue would be constitutionally guaranteed for K-12 and Community College.

If the proposal fails, Royal Oak Schools will lose $55.00 per student.
