The battle took from April 1—June 22, 1945 involved the 287,000 troops of the U.S. Tenth Army against 130,000 soldiers of the Japanese Thirty-second Army. At stake were air bases vital to the projected invasion of Japan.

Simon Buckner was Born July 18, 1886 and Died June 18, 1945 at the age of 58. Buckner was general that served in the U.S Army Buckner was a high Lieutenant General that fought for his country and died in the war zone by heavy artillery Buckner had one the purple heart award and Army distinguished service medal.
Admiral Sir Bernard Rawlings
Sir Bernard Rawlings was born 1889, and was a admiral for the allied forces of the United Kingdom and served in the royal navy he commanded the HMS Active, HMS Curacao, HMS Delhi, and HMS Valiant. He was also involved in WWI and WWII. Rawlings won the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire,and the Knight commander of the Order of the Bath. Rawlings died in 1962 at the age of 72-73.
Mitsuru Ushijima
Mitsuru Ushijima was Born July 31, 1887 in Kagoshima,Japan. Ushijima served the Empire of Japan as a General for the Imperial Japanese Army and commanded the 11th Division,and Thirty-Second Army.Ushijima fought in the Siberian Intervention, Second Sino-Japanese War,and WWI. Ushijima won the Order of the Sacred Treasures, and the Order of the Golden Kite 2nd class, he Died June 22, 1945 at the of aged 57.
