Classroom Management PLC
Professional Learning Community
Classroom Management PLC
Professional Learning Communities are a great way to learn new concepts and strategies within a supportive collegial environment. The strategies are based on Pattan’s Administrative Toolkit of research-based classroom management strategies. These sessions are designed to support regular or special education teachers in grades K-12. It is appropriate for both the novice and experienced teacher.
Participants will meet in 5 sessions, spread throughout the school year to explore various classroom management strategies. The first session will be a face-to-face session at the IU. The remaining four sessions will be on line. Participants will register in 48 Carats for the AM Cohort or PM Cohort. The AM Cohort will meet on line from 8-9am. The PM Cohort will meet from 2-3 pm.
Participants will need to complete the PLC with a partner within their building as there is an observation component to the PLC expectations. Each month the participants will use the materials provided them to explore an area of classroom management with their partner in order to identify a particular strategy and develop a Personal Action Plan to implement the strategy within their classroom for a minimum of 4 weeks. Their partner will complete an observation during that time period to provide feedback. Participants are expected to complete tasks prior to the monthly PLC meetings. (Partners must register for the same cohort group)
Session 1: This first session will serve as an introduction to the PLC framework, review of Eduplanet platform, and overview of the five modules participants will be exploring during the sessions. Participants will also review Module 1: Maximizing Classroom Structure and Module 2: Classroom Rules. Participants will be asked to complete a classroom management self-assessment prior to the first meeting. (full day)
Session 2: One hour online Meeting- This session will focus on Module 3: Actively Engage Students in Observable Ways
