Message From Dr. Thornton:
The Board of Supervisors approved returning $760,000 to the IWCS Instructional account during their meeting last night (May 19). This action will allow the division to move forward and give out contracts next week, as well as hire new positions, including testing facilitators, without making any cuts to personnel. The remaining amount of $812,507 will be set aside and available for the schools if and when needed.
There was a productive dialogue with the Board of Supervisors during the meeting. They asked thoughtful questions and we came to a positive agreement that benefits all school employees and students.
We appreciate those who contacted the Supervisors in support of restoring the school funding. We encourage you to also thank the Supervisors for taking the time to listen and work with the schools on a compromise.
You can watch last night’s meeting online at: https://play.champds.com/isleofwightcova/event/115
Thank you.
Jim Thornton, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Attendance Matters
Late arrivals and early pick-ups impact your student's learning. Please ensure that your child is at school for the entire school day: 8:55a.m. - 3:30p.m. (vehicle pick-ups) 3:50p.m. (bus riders).
Student Drop Off and Pick Up
Morning Drop Off:
Afternoon Pick Up:
Beginning at 3:30p.m., afternoon pick up will begin. Vehicles are to line up in the bus loop in front of the school and looped through the main parking lot.
Students who are vehicle pick ups in the afternoon will not be released until 3:30p.m. For safety reasons, families are asked to remain in their vehicle until their student is delivered to their respective vehicle by a staff member.
Do you need to speak with your child's teacher?
Virtual Virginia Message
In the fall of the 2022-2023 school year, Isle of Wight County Schools will return to our previous use of the Virtual Virginia platform. Virtual Virginia courses will be utilized for the following reasons:
A students wishes to access/take a course that we do not currently offer for in-person instruction (i.e. japanese, latin, etc.) or
A student needs a course to graduate that will not fit in their current schedule.
IWCS will not be offering a full time virtual platform for students in the 2022-2023 school year. If you wish for your child to continue their schooling in a virtual platform you will need to withdraw from IWCS and enroll your student in a virtual program as a homeschool student. Please note, you will also need to submit your intent to homeschool with IWCS prior to completing the withdrawal paperwork. Information about home instruction can be found here: https://www.iwcs.k12.va.us/apps/pages/homeinstruction.
