Making a Difference One Coin at a Time

During the week of February 1st to the 5th we will be holding a Pennies for Patients fundraiser in aid of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The LLS is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. The goal is to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients.

To show support for this cause our students are invited to bring coins/ loose change to their classroom in the coin collection boxes that were sent home this week. The teachers will count the coins daily to track classroom standings. The students do not have to use the boxes, a baggie or handful of pennies are all welcome. At the end of the week the coins will be deposited into the bank and the total will be forwarded to the LLS.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn how their involvement can make a difference in helping to save the lives of blood cancer patients as it encourages compassion and becoming life long givers.

Thank you for your support

if you have any questions please contact our school nurse, Julie Buchanan @ jbuchanan@littleelmisd.net

Making Words

Learners at Prestwick are making words. This is an activity done during literacy time that has students use a variety of letters to make words. They learn to focus on spelling patterns, blend sounds and make sense of the English written language by constructing words with others. Children love manipulating letters to make words and figuring out the secret word that can be made with all the letters.

Young Entrepeneurs Academy Opportunity

The Young Entrepreneurs Academy, or YEA!, is a groundbreaking educational program that takes students, ages 11 to 18, through the process of starting and running real businesses/social movements over the course of a full academic year. Students work in close cooperation with local leaders of industry, community members, and educators to develop ideas and objectives, write business plans, pitch potential investors for real money, register with governmental agencies, develop their brand identity, participate in a tradeshow, and much more! By the end of the class, students own and operate fully functioning businesses that can be carried on after graduation. Students learn to make a job--not just take a job! YEA!’s direct mission is to help students embrace their passion, energy, creativity and talents, launch a venture, and view entrepreneurship as synonymous with success and freedom.

Our sessions are Tuesdays, 4:30PM – 7:30PM in Frisco. You can get additional details at the following link: http://www.friscochamber.com/chamber_information/yea!.aspx
