Take Care of Yourself
In Onward, Aguilar reminds us to work hard, learn our craft and connect with kids. She tells us "Don't ask for, seek, or demand appreciation. Ask for feedback and stay committed to your learning, and you will learn and grow and have meaningful impact on kids" (157.) You make a difference every day. Life is not easy. It is filled with choices and demands and opportunities. Turn those PLCs, goals and growth plans into a meaningful path for you. Prioritize who you are and who you want to be; tend to your garden. Be purposeful in your direction and your students will flourish. You matter. Give your time and energy to those things and those people that are healthy for you, that make you happy. Be committed to creating outcomes that lead to your joy.

Worthwhile Reading Recommendation of the Week
Our focus on reading leads us to this week's pick: 3 Literacy Practices that Work. Author Nell K. Duke identifies three research-supported strategies proven effective in literacy instruction.
1. Morphology Instruction: Students need to be taught to decompose and compose words by morphemes, playing detective as they figure out how to figure out a word’s meaning or build a word with a particular meaning.
2. Fostering Motivation to Read: Designing instruction to include specific motivational practices can foster motivation to read.
3. Interactive Writing: Interactive writing involves the teacher and young children (pre-K through grade 1 in research) writing together.
