Homecoming Parade Route

- Opt-In of ParentVUE Emails and Notifications- I strongly recommend doing this. As a current middle school parent, I love seeing a weekly email showing grades and alerting me of missing assignments.
- There are currently 17 suspensions in all LCPS middle schools. We currently have zero. Last year, we had zero until January.
- There are 254 referrals to deans from all middle schools. Seneca Ridge accounts for only 14 of those.
- Although suspensions and referrals are low. We can and MUST always look to improve. Currently, we have to be better with our inappropriate language. More specifically, 9 of our referrals involve extreme language including racial slurs. Please help us by having a talk as a family at home about how detrimental and divisive this type of talk can be. Please consider emailing me or a dean if you know of poor language being used so we can use the information as an opportunity to educate students.
- We pride ourselves on using each incident as a learning opportunity. Currently, of our 14 incidents, only one is a repeat student.
- We can only be better if you share the low level incidents. I promise we have the capacity to work on them. The more we can get involved with what may seemingly be insignificant, the less of the significant incidents can ever occur.
And of course, you know I can't let this opening go without a shoutout to the HOME team as they played their NFC East rivals this very afternoon. I'm so sorry that you are now on the roller coaster ride that is Carson Wentz. Enjoy the high highs and the very low lows. Although I wrote this before the game, I can predict a lot of fumbles and silly interceptions.
Core Champions
Students and families joined our staff in our first ever induction ceremony on Wednesday evening. The next steps will be to cultivate their leadership by earning honor society hours by performing acts of service to support our school.
Science Olympiad and Math Counts
From last week's interest request, I believe we will have the support necessary to run both clubs, especially if everyone agrees to do a part. I am adding a more formal survey to gain interest on the student side and the parent side. Please complete this Survey.

Grade Level Read
Seneca is excited to announce that we will be participating in a grade level read again this year. Starting in October, all students and teachers will be reading one of three books during Storm (morning advisory), depending on their grade level (see table below). Not only will this group read aloud continue to build our school community by sharing an experience, but it will also strengthen our students’ literacy skills by improving their reading, listening, and thinking skills.

SGA
After four days of fundraising by selling Airheads, Student Government is proud to announce that our school raised $1,396.15 for The Citizens Foundation, USA, benefitting Pakistan's flood relief! We are so grateful to those who purchased candy AND those who made additional donations to help a community in need. We're proud of our Thunderbolts!
Unified Mental Health Team (UMHT)
Seneca’s UMHT: One of our goals is to provide families with information on community resources, access to basic needs, mental health and crisis counseling, reducing stress and anxiety, substance abuse resources, and resources to support learning. If interested, check out our resource page.
Thunderbolt Families: Have your children out-grown their current size? Are you looking to find a nice home for some gently used middle school aged clothes (leggings, sweatshirts, white t-shirts, short sleeve/long sleeve t-shirts, sweaters, sweatpants, joggers, jeans, slides/socks/shoes (size 5, 7, 8, or 8.5)? If yes, please drop off your donations at the front office.
Live4Lane 5K Memorial Walk on Sunday, October 9:
The Live4Lane scholarship in honor of Lane Michael Burrows will be awarded to several students in the Dominion High School class of 2023. Each scholarship amounts to $6,300 in honor of Lane’s football number, #63. The scholarships will contribute to selected students’ future education and involvement in the field of mental health.
The Live4Lane scholarship aims to support students who exhibit an interest in raising awareness around mental health. These students embody the core value of the Live4Lane scholarship fund: mental health awareness through education. Students with a passion for mental health awareness or students who wish to pursue further studies in mental health are invited to apply.
