LCES United: Together We Are More!
Mrs. Hladun's Tidings
As a reminder, we provide supervision at 7:55 am. We notice that some children are arriving before 7:30 am. We appreciate that there may be times your child arrives a little early; in those rare cases, please have him/her to wait on the patio in front of the main gate, and to come into the campus as soon as the first bell rings.
At LCES, we take pride in "The Colt Way" - we work to be safe, respectful, responsible and problem solvers. Even with our team's best efforts to foster relationships and to hold children accountable, sometimes children are unkind or mean to each other. Here is a compelling article that gives you language you can use to help your child stand up for him/herself or other children who are being marginalized. Although, this article speaks specifically to situations involving bullying, I think it provides good language and skills to help our children be self advocates deal with any behavior that is not in line with "The Colt Way."
On a final note, congratulations to Ms. Cassidy, who was selected in a competitive process to present at the CA Science Teacher Association conference this fall about "100 Days of STEAM!" We are so fortunate to have such talented teachers like Ms. Cassidy on our team.

Children are using pictorial input charts to learn about big ideas like setting, genre and characters through rich images, color coordination between like ideas and strong academic vocabulary. Student use the vocabulary as a 'signal word' that matches with a hand motion in order to more deeply understand the academic term, and also to 'signal' that it's time to transition to a new location or activity.
Ms. Cassidy's 1st Grade Class Is Working Hard and Having Fun!
In these examples, children were comparing and contrasting story elements like genre and characters in order to more deeply understand the core elements of all stories. Signal words included "narrative," "idle" and " setting." Way to go 1st grade!
A student lost a necklace of immense sentimental value on our playground the week of 9/11. If you've seen a necklace like this, please bring it to the office and we'll get it back to the family!
