Self-Esteem
Social Emotional Learning Team
What is self-esteem and why is it important?
Self-esteem (sometimes referred to as self-worth or self-respect) is an important part of social emotional wellbeing. Self-esteem fosters the motivation and success of both academics and positive social interactions.
High self-esteem fosters resiliency in children during this difficult online learning modality because it will help children navigate life with a positive, assertive attitude and make them believe they can accomplish their goals.
Too little self-esteem can lead children to feel defeated or depressed. It can also lead to behavioral problems, lack of poor social interactions, or may hold them back from succeeding at school or at home because they don't believe in themselves to be capable of success.
