Shuksan Families,
We are settling into a new groove with hybrid learning and we hope you are too. With so many changes, it feels good to settle into new routines.
In addition to establishing routines, we want students to develop healthy habits. This week we asked teachers and students to discuss healthy tech habits. In Homeroom classes, students learned about what is okay and not okay on district computers.
Ok? Creating, sharing, collaborating and connecting.
Not ok? Harassing, spamming, installing unapproved software and demeaning others.
We gave students this advice: " We care about the health, safety, and learning of all students and so it’s important to us that you use your computers for good. Just like on a work computer, your activity on a school computer is not private. What you do can be seen by others. It’s important to learn now how to use a computer responsibly because your whole future life will depend, in part, on your ability to do that. Your digital footprint matters now, and it matters in the future. Your behavior matters now, and it matters in the future. What do you want others to see about you? Are you putting your best foot forward?"
Families can help students post, upload and comment responsibly. Common Sense Media provides us with these 4 tips: Be a role model. Use privacy settings. Look to the stars. Search yourself.

Please let us know what questions you may have -- we are here for you.
Sincerely,
Matt Whitten

The Promise Tomorrow Initiative
Students, do you like thinking about ways to make the world a better place?
The Promise Tomorrow Initiative is a great opportunity for motivated students to engage in student-driven inquiry! This is project-based learning at its best.
Students will research complex topics, then innovate technologies, designs, or plans to mobilize behavior. Student teams will meet weekly via Zoom, be supported by a volunteer, and be supervised by a Promise Tomorrow Coordinator. Quarter 4 registration is open now and closes on March 22.
Projects will be presented quarterly with a final symposium in June. Those interested, please see detailed information and sign up at https://bellinghamschools.org/program/promise-tomorrow/
