Pre-AP Information for Parents of 5th Grade Students
Parents of fifth grade students who will attend a KISD junior high in 2018-2019 are invited to view a presentation regarding Katy ISD’s Pre-AP and AP Program.
The presentations (English and Spanish) will be located at http://www.katyisd.org/dept/GT/Pages/default.aspx below the Quick Link labeled “Presentations”.
The presentation will provide an overview of the advanced academics in Katy ISD and will address commonly asked questions about student participation in Pre-Advanced Placement courses.
Pre-AP courses (grades 6-10) are designed to prepare students to be successful in Advanced Placement (AP) courses (grades 9-12). AP courses are generally available to juniors and seniors at each of the Katy ISD high schools. AP courses provide students the opportunity to engage in college level studies with the option of taking an AP exam and possibly qualifying for college credit. In addition, research indicates that students who participate in an Advanced Placement course are more likely to complete an undergraduate program, more likely to choose academically challenging majors in college and more likely to pursue an advanced degree. Katy ISD offers Advanced Placement courses in the following disciplines – English, social studies, science, mathematics, languages other than English, computer science, music and art.
For questions about secondary course selection, attend events held at each junior high campus (dates are publicized by the junior high); consult the 2018-2019 Course Catalog; or, contact the junior high counselor.

“Texas Independence Day Celebration”—presented by H-E-B—is an annual two-day living history celebration on Saturday and Sunday, March 3 and 4, 2018 on the 293-acre Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site to commemorate when 59 delegates bravely met in 1836 to make a formal declaration of independence from Mexico. After all, there is no better place to celebrate Texas independence than on the very spot “Where Texas Became Texas.”
The free event features live music, food, traditional crafts, musket and cannon firings, Texas A&M University Singing Cadets, the Kids History Zone, “The Birth of a Republic” historical play, Brenham Children’s Chorus, and other commemorative programs. The new museum exhibit titled, “So Others Could Follow: Four Centuries of Maps That Define Texas” will open that weekend. Historical reenactors set up a bonafide 1836 Texas Army camp where visitors can wander freely to learn how the soldiers and their families lived then. Admission fees are waived for the site’s attractions (Independence Hall; Star of the Republic Museum and Barrington Living History Farm) for that weekend celebration. Admission to the grounds, on-site shuttles, and parking are also free. “Texas Independence Day Celebration” is coordinated by the Washington on the Brazos State Park Association. Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site is halfway between Houston and Austin at 23400 Park Road 12, Washington, TX, 77880. Arrival To School
We ask that students arrive to campus between 8:00 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. Because there is no adult supervision before 8:00 a.m. students may not arrive before that time. The morning car rider drop off is one lane, please do not go around cars in front of you to drop off. If you need to come into the building during arrival please use the crosswalk where a staff member will stop traffic for you to safely cross with your child. Once you have dropped off your child please consider making a right hand turn as you exit the driveway to eliminate backup that is caused from cars having to wait to turn left. Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we work together to ensure the safety of our Dragons.
