I Behave As Though This Is The Day I Will Be Remembered For.

Note from the Principal's Desk - JUNE 2022

Welcome to June. The past few years have been both challenging and rewarding. Upon reflection, the COVID Pandemic caused a tremendous amount of suffering. However, it was not all bad news, as many positive things resulted. Teachers and students became very proficient with Google Classroom and Google Suite. Teachers and students formed very close relationships with fewer other people. We slowed down and became more comfortable with being alone. This year continued to feel like a roller coaster with many ups and downs. Thankfully, we have experienced more ups! Thankfully, junior high athletics and field trips have returned, and parent volunteers are now present!

We continue to be very fortunate at Elmer S. Gish School:

· We have fantastic students in BOTH Global and Cogito programs, who are very dedicated to their academics, fine arts, and athletics. OVERWHELMINGLY, Gish students did extremely well with working hard to keep up with assignments!

· We also have tremendous staff at ALL grades with many diverse skills. Teaching many subjects “not in our area of specialty” provided some challenges and we overcame all obstacles. We became MASTERFUL in online delivery and meeting students’ needs. Our teachers and support staff at Gish School are top-notch!

· Our parents are knowledgeable, demanding, and so VERY supportive. We appreciate parental assistance and cooperation. Thank you as well for your kind words of encouragement and support, especially during COVID-19 instruction.

· Lastly, we are fortunate to have excellent leadership at the Division level with St. Albert Public Schools. Their support and wisdom proved to be invaluable as we learned exactly what to do to survive with new protocols and restrictions.

We are VERY sad to announce that after a very long and successful 20+ years at Gish School, Assistant Principal Kris Horb has successfully applied for a transfer to Paul Kane High School. He will be dearly missed, as his skills and attributes are truly irreplaceable. The attraction of older students, a bright, new building, and the opportunity to work in a different work setting were all very appealing. Rest assured that we will replace him with the very best assistant principal that we can. Congratulations to Mr. Horb.

We sincerely appreciate the fantastic team of individuals that we collaborate with each and every day. Thank you to our stakeholders for choosing E. S. Gish School, and for your assistance in making Gish School so successful! I feel VERY fortunate to be the Principal of such a wonderful school.

The end of the year is very near, and we still have nearly 10% of the school year remaining. We encourage students to continue to work hard. Gish School has a long history of outstanding achievement; let’s keep up the good work!

We are planning for the 2022-23 school year. Pre-registrations have already concluded and we’re quite full for next year. Unless families live in Akinsdale or Pineview, we are not accepting new students.

Elmer Gish School is proud to provide a "decade of excellent education." While that still holds true for students in the Cogito Program, Global students move on to Lorne Akins School for their junior high years. We are very proud of ALL Gish students and the success that they have experienced in their 7-10 years of education (including kindergarten), at Gish School.

We bid a very fond farewell to Global students who are finishing in 6Stoyko. We are equally proud of our Grade 9 students and their accomplishments, who will be moving on to various senior high schools. Regardless of which school students attend next year, we are confident that they have the skills and attributes to be successful in their future endeavors. We appreciate the symbiotic relationship as they learned from us and we learned from them. Thank you for many excellent years. Fantastic relationships are what separates Gish School from digital learning and other learning platforms. Former students are welcome to come back for a visit in the fall. Good luck in all of you future endeavours.

We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable summer, and will return near August 22.
