Manitou Springs High School

Mustang News - March 18th, 2022

From The Principal...

This week we participated in "Mustang Strong" Day. Youth Motivational Speaker, Dr. Laymon Hicks, presented to the entire student body about overcoming obstacles and contributing in a positive way to the culture of Manitou Springs High School. Following the assembly, students joined "family" groups to reflect on the speaker's message, reflect on our school, and to begin to define what we want for our school's future. This was a day to focus on our identity, our values, and the actions we take on a day to day basis. Thank you to the MSHS Student Council for their efforts in putting this special day together.

From The District Registrar...

2022-2023 Returning Student Registration Process

Current 2021-2022 MSSD14 students who will be returning, both resident and non-resident, will be rolled over to the 2022-2023 school year and will receive an email notification to complete the registration/renewal process in early June.

Here is the first step for you to complete

Please help us with this process by completing the 2022-2023 Intent to Return Survey using the link below or the QR code. We ask that all parents and guardians complete this survey regardless of whether they will be attending MSSD14 in the fall for the 2022-2023 school year.

You do not need to complete this if your student is a graduating senior.

If you have already completed this survey, thank you for your time.

Intent to Return Survey

Timeline for Parents/Guardians

  • March - Parents/Guardians complete Intent to Return Survey.
  • June – Returning Student Online Registration/Renewal. Snapcodes and instructions will be sent to Parents/Guardians

From The School Assessment Coordinator...

MSHS State & District Assessment Logistics

Spring is a very busy time of the year at the high school, including the spring assessment cycle. For our 9th-11th graders the state assessments will be the SAT Suite of assessments on April 13, 2022 (with makeup testing on April 26, 2022). Furthermore, our 10th and 11th graders will be engaging in an additional assessment this spring: the ACT Career Readiness Assessment for 10th graders and the Science CMAS for 11th graders, both of which will occur April 19, 2022. All of the aforementioned tests are state assessments, except for the ACT Career Readiness test, which MSSD14 gives to sophomores to assess their readiness for post-secondary life and to help them fulfill the new graduation guidelines from the state of Colorado.

While we will accommodate students for makeup assessments, it is most ideal for your student to be at school for the original testing day. Research shows students do better on testing day and it will ensure they aren’t pulled from regular scheduled class time to complete make up testing. Please take this into consideration as you are scheduling time that your student(s) will not be in attendance. Manitou Springs School District encourages full participation of every student in assessments.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the School Assessment Coordinator: Anna Conrad (

From The Tech Department...

Is your student having issues printing, keyboard/trackpad issues, weird “glitchy” stuff?
If so, they should do weekly updates on their school laptop.

1.) In the Windows Search Bar, type “Updates”

2.) Open the “Check for Updates”

Students should also restart their laptop at least once a week.

Please have your student come to the Media Center for all tech and library needs!

Thank you,

Ms. Waters and Ms. Blyth
