We made it! THANK YOU to our staff, our students, and our parents! We have completed the first three days of the 2020-2021 school year. The feedback from both our in-person school families and our remote learning families have been positive. The students are happy to be here and we are happy to have them! As we heard from one of our kindergartners during a visit from Dr. Jones on Thursday, “It’s amazing!” Our educator hearts are full of joy!

Students have been arriving on time which allows us to get our days off to a positive start as a learning community. Thank you for your support in this area. Let's keep up the good work!

We are looking forward to continuing our successful learning journey with you!

Yours for safety and learning,

The JC Leadership Team

Arrival and Dismissal

Most of our new procedures are working well and we are adjusting where necessary. Please be patient with us as we learn during our new normal!

Arrival is working out fairly well. For safety purposes we are asking parents to do the following:

  • If you pull in from the Millbank rotary in the lane by the gym please pull all the way up to the student drop off sign and the orange cone. Traffic is backing up into the Milbank rotary and we think we can alleviate this by having cars pull up all the way.

  • Have your child ready with their backpack and have them hop out quickly so you can leave. Staff will lead them into the building.

  • If you pull into the front circle then drop your child off in the front circle and turn right to go through the turnaround and go back out to Millbank Avenue. We cannot allow left-hand turns as it has presented a danger.

  • DO NOT PASS OTHER CARS as you wait for cars in front of you to unload. This has created a real danger. It is a two-way street and we need to be patient. We will try and be as efficient as possible but will not allow cars to pass.

Dismissal is also working out well, but we need to adjust car pick up. Please consider the staggered schedule and getting into the pick-up loop as close to the time of your pick-up as possible. We realize there is no easy way to perfect this, but if we can get close the number of students waiting for pick up will be decreased. Times are:

  • Kindergarten - No car pick up

  • 1st grade - 2:35

  • 2nd grade - 2:38

  • 3rd grade - 2:41

  • 4th grade - 2:43

  • 5th grade - 2:45

Please make sure to put your last name on a large piece of paper in the front window of your car. This will help to make the line go much more quickly.

Cars are not permitted in the front circle during dismissal. The front circle is for buses only during the hours of 2:15 - 3:15 pm.

Please continue to walk when possible. It is healthy and it creates a safer environment for all!

Remote Learning Transfers

Per Dr. Jones, Elementary transfers in/out of the remote learning school will be reviewed weekly on Mondays at 3:00 pm. The goal is to "move" the students on the following Friday so they can start their "new" class on the following Monday. Any change can take up to two weeks to fully process.

Until you receive district notification that the move is "official" the student will remain enrolled in their current placement. If a student is scheduled for in-school instruction but does not attend in-school learning in the interim, they will be provided work at home as they would receive if out for illness.

World Language Instruction at Julian Curtiss

This year at Julian Curtiss all World Language instruction will take place remotely. Our three World Language teachers will be working from different locations throughout the district. We have also hired a new Spanish teacher, Señora Jacqueline Agashe, who will be replacing Señor Billy Gibson and starting with us on October 1st.

Due to Señora Agashe's delayed arrival date, as well as the fact that our youngest learners are still being introduced to the platforms being used for instruction, we are delaying the start of World Language in grades K-2 until October 1st.

Should you have any questions regarding this change, please feel free to contact me.

Don't Forget to Show Your JC Spirit!

Each Friday, we show our Julian Curtiss School spirit by wearing our JC Spirit Wear or our school colors which are green and white. We would also love to see everyone come to the first day of school showing lots of JC Eagle pride!

If you are looking for some new Spirit Wear, families, staff, and teachers may order whatever they like. There are masks, stadium seats, blankets, and other fun accessories as well as clothing. You can customize the logos, colors, etc. (within select choices). There are no minimums. The company will produce and ship directly and Julian Curtiss will receive a 12% commission. Hopefully easy for all! Click below to see all of our fun, new JC Spirit Wear!

There is also limited inventory leftover which will be sold at the Kindergarten orientation on Tuesday, September 8th.
