Car Rider Updates
Our car rider line continues to get faster and faster each day! We appreciate your patience at the beginning of the year as we refined our processes and students learned their car rider numbers. Starting next week, we will begin closing the car rider lane at our normally scheduled times:
Morning car rider: 7:45-8:10 am
Afternoon dismissal: 2:45-3:15 am
If you arrive after the car rider line has closed, you will need to drive around to the front of the building to drop off or pick up your child from the front office. We appreciate your support.

Lunch Menu
September is Attendance Awareness Month! Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. We also know that when students miss too much school— regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically. When students are not at school, they are missing valuable instructional time.
Here are some things you as a parent can do:
-Talk with your child about what happened at school each day. The more interested in school you are, the more they will be!
-Set a bedtime and morning routine so that your child is well-rested and ready for school.
-Wait to take family trips until school holidays or summer break.
-When possible, schedule doctor and dentist appointments outside of school hours or at the very beginning or end of the school day.
Character Trait and Mindfulness Activity of the Month
Every month, we focus on a character trait to instill great character into our cubs. The character trait for the month of August is Respect. We define respect as treating others how we want to be treated. Another way that we can show respect to our classmates and teachers is by being kind and thinking about their feelings. As a reminder, teachers will be choosing one student this month who has exhibited respect the most to represent his/her class as the Cub of the Month. We also have a famous person that exhibited this trait highlighted each month. For this month, check out Ms. O’Rear’s read aloud on our eCLASS page about Mahatma Ghandi.
Each month, we will feature a mindfulness activity on the announcements, during class meetings, and on our eCLASS page. You can watch Mrs. Woodworth do a demonstration of each month’s activity on the counseling eCLASS page. This month is “Counting Breaths.”
Our summer reading celebration will be held on Friday, Sept. 3! All students that logged 500 minutes of reading in the Gwinnett County Public Library Beanstack program will be recognized and rewarded! We are proud of your efforts to meet your summer reading goals!
Book Checkout
All students will receive weekly access to the media center to check out books! We are excited to provide opportunities for our students to select books of their choice for reading. Please refer to the media center policies link on the media center website for more details about student circulation procedures. If you have any questions about the media program, please contact Jennifer.Alden@gcpsk12.org
Reading Rewards
It’s time to kick off our Reading Rewards program! Look for your blue September reading log in this week’s Friday folder!
Reading Rewards is a school-wide incentive program designed to encourage and reward the independent reading efforts of our students. The goal of this program is for students to develop and sustain a consistent habit of reading.
Participating students will read and log at least 20 minutes per day for at least 20 days in the month. Students can read independently or with their parents at home. Logs will be sent home monthly in the weekly folders. After completing the monthly requirement, logs are returned to the homeroom teacher. Logs must be turned in on time and filled out completely in order to earn a prize. Parent initials are required in order to verify the reading.
If you have any questions about the Reading Rewards program, please contact Jennifer.Alden@gcpsk12.org.
