LHS Construction Advisory Committee Call for Candidates
Lakeside High School has announced a call for parent and community members who are interested in serving on the Principal Advisory Council’s Construction Advisory Committee (CAC) for a significant E-SPLOST (Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) capital improvement project.
This committee serves to increase stakeholder and community engagement in the design, planning, and construction phases of the school’s E-SPLOST project.
Project Summary: Addition to Lakeside HS
· 38-classroom addition (and necessary core space additions and/or parking spaces) and installation of synthetic turf at football practice field
· Budget: $26,990,000
· Architect Request for proposals (RFP) going out on Feb 2018
· CAC selection and training: Feb - May 2018
· Anticipated Construction Jul 2020 - Mar 2022 (subject to change)
The Principal Advisory Council will select five members to the CAC, not including the principal, who will be an ex-officio member. A minimum of two members will be Principal Advisory Council members. This selection will take place in an open meeting of the Principal Advisory Council. All CAC members must complete a Conflict of Interest form at the initial CAC training conducted by the District. These forms must be completed by all CAC members prior to the first meeting. Access the form and additional information by visiting the District's E_SPLOST V site: http://www.dekalbschoolsga.org/e-splost/
Participation in the CAC may require a 1-3 year commitment. In extenuating circumstances, a capital improvement project may require up to 5 years to complete. The number of CAC meetings will be set by the CAC membership under guidance from the Council. The deadline to apply for the Construction Advisory Committee is March 22, 2018 at 11:59pm.

BRING IT ON: THE MUSICAL
Henderson Middle School Foundation Annual Campaign, March 5–23 – please help your future school
Help your child’s future school by making a donation to the HMS Foundation! The foundation’s goal is to provide educational resources to the school, to enrich the school’s academic and cultural offerings. Because of the foundation, HMS has been working towards becoming a STEM school - and we are making progress toward that goal! This year, HMS has one STEM team in 7th and 8th grades, and they have been a great success. Next year STEM will go school wide so your child can benefit in 6th grade!
But it’s not just about STEM. We have supported teacher resources, equipment, training, student activities together with PTSA, and are currently funding a bilingual liaison to help fill the gap left by having an interpreter only part time.
This means that donations made today will go to programs that directly impact your rising elementary student. Your participation will help ensure the HMS Foundation can continue supporting the school. Remember – a strong school makes for a strong neighborhood.
How to donate: Please visit the website http://www.hmsfoundation.org/donate-now.html to make a donation online or for information how to donate by check. If you have questions, please email info@hmsfoundation.org.
