VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL GOAL: Kindness (Manaakitanga)
Kindness or Manaakitanga, is showing care and concern for other people, animals and the environment – ‘caring for the people’. It is part of our school vision and one of our school values.
We need kindness for people to ‘get on’ and relate to each other, animals and the environment. “Manāki Tanagata, Manāki whenua - To care for the people and to care for the land” this is a big part of our school vision.
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You practise environmentally friendly habits such as recycling
You take excellent care of your friends, new people
You accept that people are different
You have respect for the feelings and well being of others
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
Things are beginning to be a lot more settled around the school as we stay in level 1 and our routines continue. It has certainly been a busy week in classrooms, long may these routines and familiarity continue!
The weather has been tough this week, however, our learners have done really well to keep on task even when break times have been disrupted.
We were extremely lucky with the weather today as we had our annual whanau Tug 'o' War. A massive thanks to Mr Stirling for running this event! See below for the results!
A big thanks to everyone who completed and handed in our survey about the front gates of the school. We met as a staff to discuss this and I feel we have struck a good balance for the staff, the learners and the community. We will begin this approach as of Monday. Please see the attached link below for the details. We will re-survey at the end of Term 3 to gauge how it has been for everyone.
This week our Year 5 and 6 students began their inter-school team practices. We have a busy sports schedule in Term 3 with an inter-school exchange every 2nd week. The kids a re really excited to play for their school and play against their city cousins. More information will come out next term about these dates.
Remember to keep an eye on the school calendar. We have made some changes to some of our school event sin Term 3 and we will keep you updated on these changes next week.
Our Te Reo focus for this week has been:
He aha te tae? What is the colour?
He_______________ te tae
Ma - white, whero - red, kakriki - green, Maota - dark green, Karera - light green, Pango - black, kowhai - yellow, kahurangi - blue, kikorangi - blue, karaka - orange, mawhero - pink, kiwikiw - grey, paraone - brown, tawa - purple.
Thanks whanau

We are after your feedback again next week - this time we after some feedback about the learning provided by the school and the Ministry of Education during the lockdown.
If you have 3 minutes, please fill in the online survey forms - we have one for 'Google form' and one for 'Surveymonkey' depending on which platform you like to use. See the links below:

or
HUATOKI ST UPGRADE
To help everyone out, the council will be in contact with us to let us know what is going to be happening each week so we can keep you informed and keep our community safe.
Next week they will be beginning on Hursthouse St. This will mean this street will be closed - I know a lot of our whanau park on this street. The work they are doing is to make a raised crossing path for our community on what is a very tight and dangerous intersection.
Please plan not is use this street next week.
