Pilgrims on the Way of Truth

Now Entering Exam-Season!

This week marked a notable shift in the halls and classrooms. And when we reflect on it, there are many factors that seem to affect our students this week. To begin, there's the general exhaustion after Homecoming! Also, we celebrated our class masses this week (Sophomores through Seniors.) It was such a great opportunity for these classes to come together, celebrate our beautiful faith and even enjoy lunch as a class! Our Freshmen will be enjoying this - and more - at their up-coming Freshman Retreat scheduled for this coming Friday! Another reality that seemed to set in for our seniors: the FAFSA application opened up on October 1st! These little milestones in their college journey seem to be picking up momentum, and the anxiety (and excitement) is palpable.

The anticipation of quarter exams - as well as PSAT/Pre-ACT testing - also adds to the general feel in the school. We encourage students to begin now to prepare - review class notes, go over returned quizzes to determine where to focus studying-time, and make time to meet with teachers for additional help! By establishing these pro-active habits now, they will be second-nature by the time our students head off to college!

Finally, we have been made aware that we have one confirmed case of the flu among our student-body. Although this may not seem like much, we are already taking precautions at the school to keep our students safe and healthy. After students leave for the day, our amazing maintenance crew keep our surfaces clean and sanitized. Our teachers, too, regularly wipe down student desks. For more information, please check out "The Flu: A Guide for Parents" published by the CDC.

Congratulations to all of our fall sports teams as they enter - and ADVANCE - in their post-season competitions! Behind every dedicated, talented athlete, there are equally dedicated parents, proud grandparents, and supportive siblings who have been cheering them on for years. You have lived out of your cars, made meals out of too many "walking-tacos," cried tears of joy and sorrow with your students after victories and defeats, and always supported the home teams. To all the parents and families who have an ever-packed stadium bag, collapsible sideline chairs and stadium seats, and extra sunscreen in the trunks of your cars- we salute you!

We hope that this up-coming long weekend is everything that you need it to be: restful, productive, quiet, joyful, or even just a chance to press pause in the middle of a very busy fall season. For our students who will be taking exams on Wednesday, we pray that you do your best! We believe in you! For our seniors who will be travelling to visit colleges, we pray for safe travels - and we hope you enjoy the excitement of discovering YOUR college home!

Help Your Students Prepare for Quarter 1 Exams!

Quarter 1 exams are scheduled for October 19th and 20th. For those new to our exam schedules, the first day of exams runs as a normal school day, 8:05am - 2:30pm. The second day (Friday) has a 10:40 am dismissal. The buses are aware of this dismissal schedule and will be on hand to get their passengers safely home after Friday's exams!

Also - many teachers are requesting that all absent/late homework be turned in NO LATER THAN Friday, October 13th! Please encourage your students to check with their individual teachers to make sure they are abiding by those specific class deadlines. Teachers need the weekend to be able to properly grade and run final gradebook audits. Also - this is a great way to dedicate the weekend of the 14th to study for exams, and not scramble to make up missing work.

Most teachers, too, offer study guides to help their students prepare for exams. Please encourage students to use these tools, if provided. Don't forget - we have wonderful Writing and Math labs that are open and available every day, should our students need a little extra help. Finally, our amazing NHS students will be on hand for after school drop-in tutoring during exam week as well!

The gradebook will close at 3pm on October 18th and we anticipate to have all exam grades finalized by October 25th. We are planning to open the online gradebooks at 8:00am that morning!

Sweater-Season is Just Around the Corner!

Starting on October 23rd (first day of Quarter 2) we will be switching over to Marian Central uniform sweaters! Students will be required to wear a white or light blue dress shirt under the MC sweater, as well as long uniform pants and appropriate shoes. Young men should wear a tie. Should students need to "layer up," they are welcome to continue wearing their MC fleece jackets or 3/4 zip pull-over.

All young men should be clean-shaven, and continue to maintain the required hair-lengths. We have had several young men who have had to shave at school upon request - please know that detentions will be served along with those requests should they continue.

Please check your sweater inventory. Should you need to swap for a different size, please don't hesitate to contact the office! We still have inventory of donations and would love to help you out! (Especially seniors, who are trying to stretch their uniforms to graduation!)
