WASHINGTON COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH K-12 SCHOOL GUIDANCE
As we continue to navigate COVID-19 exposures in our building, we recognize our families have many questions when your student is impacted. Some of the common questions that come up are:
How is my child identified as a close contact when an individual reports being positive for COVID-19? The District COVID-19 Health Team works with the school administrators to identify all areas the positive individual was while in our buildings, buses, and on property. As guided by Washington County Public Health, close contacts are determined for students if they were within 3 feet of the individual for a cumulative 15 minutes in the classroom or 6 feet in other areas. For adults, it is 6 feet in all areas for a cumulative 15 minutes.
How long does my student need to quarantine if identified as a close contact? For 10 days from the last exposure to a positive case. The student can return to school on day 11. Reminder: Quarantined students must stay home. Please do not participate in sports, activities, parties, etc.
My student has a headache or runny nose, can they come to school? No. Anyone showing any signs of illness needs to stay home until they are fully recovered from symptoms. If symptoms persist, student or adult is recommended to get tested for COVID-19.
My student is vaccinated. Do they need to quarantine? No. Vaccinated individuals do not need to quarantine if they have been exposed to a positive case of COVID-19. Washington County Public Health recommends those individuals monitor for symptoms for 14 days and get tested after the third day from exposure.

UPDATE ON YOUTH VACCINATIONS FOR AGES 5-11
TTSD administrators and members of our health team are participating in Washington County Health and State meetings to stay updated on the anticipated release of the COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. Washington County school districts are meeting regularly and creating plans to provide maximum access to students eligible in our communities. At this time, the expected vaccine availability will come sometime in November.
We encourage families to be planning for the release of the vaccine as well. If you have a family doctor, please ask them what their plans are for distributing the vaccine. Local pharmacies will also be administering vaccines. The District will be working with health partners to host clinics for families in both Tigard and Tualatin.
Please participate in our survey to help us best prepare to bring vaccine availability to our students. Click here: Survey to participate in the Youth Vaccine Survey.
We will continue to communicate updates as we have them. It is important to note: There is no State mandate at this time relative to the COVID-19 vaccination for students.
Red Ribbon and National Drug Prevention week is Oct 23-31

Weather Related Communication
The winter months bring with them the possibility of school closures--or delayed openings due to severe weather conditions. Before a decision is made, school and bus company officials monitor weather conditions and personally check roads in higher elevation areas.
If conditions are severe enough to threaten the safety of students traveling to and from school, a decision is made to close or delay school. This decision is made by 6 a.m.
Emergency announcements will be posted to the District websites and sent out via:
- FlashAlert
- District email
- Text and the TTSD Mobile App
- Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
Sign-up to receive text messages, Twitter or email school closure announcements at FlashAlert.net and download the Tigard-Tualatin SD mobile app on your mobile device in the Apple or Google Play Store. Login with your Facebook or Google accounts or get your login and password from your school office.
Safe Oregon
Why is there a need for a tip line system? The number one reason why students do not report is the fear of retaliation from their peers. SafeOregon can be accessed from the privacy of a phone, home computer or other Internet equipped device, eliminating the possibility of being identified by another student and thus, decreasing the likelihood that a school safety threat would go unreported.
Students can call, text, or email. 844-472-3367 or tip@safeoregon.com

TTSD Quarantine Instruction Plan
Masks Required For All Indoor and Outdoor Activities
Masks are required for all coaches, spectators, and staff during indoor and outdoor athletic activities in the Tigard-Tualatin School District. As a community, we want to take every step possible to stay safe and make sure our student-athletes are able to continue to participate and enjoy their experiences. We want to make sure that our entire community does its part to stem the spread of COVID-19 so our doors remain open and our classrooms remain full of students. For more information, please see the attached athletic guidance from the OSAA. OSAA Guidance

Families with 5th Graders: Enter to be Oregon’s Kid Governor
Oregon’s Kid Governor® program (ORKG) is a statewide civics program for 5th graders supported through Oregon Secretary of State’s office. Timed to coincide with Election Day in November, every school and home school in Oregon is eligible to enter one 5th grader to run in a statewide election that other 5th graders will vote in. Classrooms can vote in the election, nominate a classmate to run for office or do both! Oregon’s Kid Governor nominees work with their classmates to create a campaign video about why they want to be Kid Governor, their leadership skills, a community issue they want to address, and a 3-point plan that will help 5th graders across Oregon make a difference in their communities.
Now entering its fifth year, ORKG continues to be an outstanding opportunity for developing leadership skills as students are immersed in a meaningful civics experience. There is no cost, and the program provides a full classroom curriculum and information for parents whose students choose to run. Students gain valuable knowledge of our state government, how to take action through civic participation, and how people of all ages can choose to participate in our democratic society.
