A Message from Dr. Stone

Good evening,

I hope that everyone had a restful Thanksgiving Break. It is hard to believe that the end of the semester is just two and a half weeks away! Tonight, 8th grade girls basketball takes on Tays at TJH and 7th girls basketball is taking on Tays at WCJH. Hope to see you there!

Regards,

Permanent School ID Notice

Parents-

As you will recall, Katy ISD requires students at the secondary level to wear identification badges during the school day. The ID badge is to be worn where it is easily visible throughout the day. When students do not have their IDs, they are to report to the cafeteria in the morning, or the AP office throughout the day, to obtain a temporary ID. If a student misplaces their ID, they can purchase one for $3 in the library.

Since beginning our “random ID sweeps”, we have noticed many students are obtaining a temporary ID each day, but not replacing their lost IDs. This has caused an inordinate amount of financial strain given the cost of printing over a 100 temporary IDs each and every day.

Because this is an important safety measure and the financial burden of printing temporary IDs has become apparent, campus administration have discussed the best means to address this situation. Beginning January 7th, 2020, random “ID sweeps” will be conducted during class periods to identify students who are not wearing their permanent ID badge. Those students will be automatically assigned a lunch detention. Between now and the start of the next semester, lost IDs can be replaced in the library at no charge!

We appreciate your help in talking to your student about the importance of wearing ID badges.

Deadline to Drop High School Credit Courses

ATTENTION PARENTS: Katy ISD recommends that students who cannot maintain a minimum semester average of 75 in a high school credit class exit the course. If your child’s average based on the 1st and 2nd six weeks, plus current grades from the 3rd six weeks is below a 75, he/she received a letter from their counselor on Monday, December 2nd. The purpose of this letter is to give students and their parents the opportunity to drop a high school credit course if the student’s average is below a 75. If your student received a letter and would like to drop their high school credit course, a parent signature is required and the letter must be returned to Jessie Clay by Friday, December 6th. Please understand that if your student does not return the letter by Friday, December 6th, your student’s schedule will stay the same. This means that the grade earned in the high school credit course will transfer to your student’s high school transcript.

If a student finishes the first semester of a high school credit course with a failing grade, then his/her first semester grade counts as half credit attempted, will be recorded on their high school transcript, and the grade counts toward the GPA. In this situation, the student MUST repeat the entire course in high school. If you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact the 8th grade counselor, Jessie Clay at jessamyneyclay@katyisd.org.

8th Grade Career Day

Greetings!

WoodCreek Junior High and Junior Achievement invite you to participate in our 8th Grade Career Day! As a school, we are committed to exposing our students to a wide variety of careers. The purpose of this soon to be annual event is to motivate our students by working closely with the community to help improve their educational outcome. You are essential to a successful day!

We are working to educate our students on the various paths that are available to them, and we need community business partners and community members to provide their talents and expertise for students. We would be honored if you would accept our invitation to participate as a Career Speaker on Friday January 17, 2020 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM or a Career Table scheduled for 1:00 – 3:00 P.M.

Career Speaker:
You will have 35-40 minutes to introduce yourself, your career and what an average day looks like for you in the work place. Feel free to create a PowerPoint, provide handouts or bring props to help you with your presentation. You will be provided a volunteer guide to assist with the planning and preparation of your event.

Career Tables:
Your table should display the career you represent and you should provide handouts that explain the following:
• the preparation your career requires
• what your job entails daily
• insights or inspiration you could provide to motivate our students as they continue on to their secondary school studies and plan for their college/university options.
• you are encouraged to bring props, photos, or any other type of visual aids that will provide our students with a better understanding of your career.

We would really appreciate your personal contribution toward a successful career day however, if you are unable to attend, please feel free to share this information with your co-workers to see if they are interested.

We look forward to your response by Friday December 20, 2019. At that time, additional information will be forwarded to you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Aliyah Thomas at aliyahthomas@katyisd.org or Kelly Watkins at kellymwatkins@katyisd.org.

Katy ISD SpeakUP for Safe Schools

This school year, Katy ISD launched its SpeakUP app, an anonymous reporting tool, along with the SpeakUP for Safe Schools informational campaign. This campaign consists of brief, two-minute informational videos on topics impacting youth such as vaping, social media hoax threats, and bullying. These videos will be shown to our students over the coming weeks, and we are sharing them with you here. We will share a different one each week over a three-week period.

The SpeakUP for Safe Schools informational campaign also includes the Legacy Parent Academy, which is made up of sessions that address subject matters important to our district's parents, including ones similar to those in these videos. Please click the link here for more information on the Parent Academy.

How To Report Bullying

Speak Up to our Teachers and Staff!

Teachers and staff at WoodCreek Junior High want students to know that they can come to them if they are being bullied, teased or harassed. The video below are the stories that some of our teachers and staff have from when they were in school and they want students to know that they care and are listening when students come to them. Our students are worth it!
