Lakeview Elementary - We Know Every Child by Name & by Need

February 16, 2018

Hello Lakeview Families!

We want to take a moment to thank you for all you do to make Lakeview such an awesome community. My heart breaks for the families, teachers, and friends in Florida who were so devastatingly affected this week. I want to assure you that safety is always our number one priority. Our campus safety plan is always in effect and our teachers are trained on how to keep students and themselves safe in case of an emergency. I hope you enjoy your long weekend, hug your kiddos a little tighter and try not to sweat the small stuff. We are truly blessed.

Jump Rope for Heart

From Coach Saettel

Dear Lakeview Parents,

The kids are doing a great job of exercising and keeping their hearts healthy! They are also doing a great job online with donations. Lakeview has raised over 18k with 2 weeks left to reach our goal of $21,500! Donations can be made through Friday, February 23rd at

http://www2.heart.org/site/TR?pg=company&fr_id=3196&company_id=87721&s_hasSecureSession=true

The kids and I would also like to invite you to come jump with us during gym class. Please see the below schedule and if you plan to attend, please wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothes. The kids are looking forward to making you sweat!

If your child’s teacher is highlighted, please check with your child to confirm which day and time he/she will be jumping. Kinder jumps both days for an abbreviated time so please feel free to choose a day.

Think Kind!

Shoes for Africa

Our Kindness Ninjas (AKA our students) have been amazing in spreading random acts of kindness. We are also collecting gently used shoes to donate to school children in Africa.

We will continue collections through the end of February. Thank you so much for supporting our students and those across the world!

We understand students miss school for various reasons. However, please understand that if your child has missed more than 8 school days (excused or unexcused) you will receive a letter from Lakeview regarding attendance. As the state requires students to be in attendance 90% of the year, Lakeview will continue to follow state guidelines regarding this issue. If you have any questions we are happy to talk you through the process.

Absence notes are due no more than 3 days after the date of the absent. After 3 days, the absence will be marked as unexcused.

Ride Changes

Big picture
Parents please be sure to send an email to LakeviewElem@nisdtx.org and your child's teacher by 1:00pm to communicate ride changes. We will not release students to ride changes without confirmation from parents regarding ride changes.

Birthday Treats

Big picture
We love celebrating birthdays with our students! When planning on bringing in birthday treats, only pre-packaged store bought products are allowed. To ensure there is time to distribute birthday treats to classrooms, please have them in the office no later than 2:00. We are unable to hold ice cream or popsicles so please do not send treats that will melt. Also, if a treat does not have a label of ingredients it will not be shared with the class. Due to allergies we must know the ingredients for ALL treats. Due to sensitivity no balloons are allowed in the building.

Facebook and Social Media

Social media is a great way to keep up with and in contact with friends and family. When you are posting regarding Lakeview, please keep a few things in mind:

1. Think before you post, your words have power.

2.Do not post pictures or information of children who are not yours. Privacy is important so do not post pictures or information about other students without parent permission.

3. If you have a question regarding events or information regarding Lakeview, your best bet is to always email your child's teacher or call the front office.

4. If you are unhappy with a situation or would like to share a concern, please always email your child's teacher or contact our front office.

5. Finally, stay positive. No one benefits when community members disagree on line.
