Peterson's News
9/25-9/29
We had our kick-off for our PTA Fundraiser on Monday and the students were so excited! Peter Panther made an appearance and each student got a bracelet. Thank you to all of you who have donated to the fundraiser! Let's keep those donations coming!! Check out a few of the pictures below!
This week we will be having meetings to review our i-Ready data and other assessments that our teachers have collected over the past few weeks. Based on the review of the data and assessments, we will plan for supports and enrichment that will benefit our students and allow them to be as successful as possible
To our families who are observing Yom Kippur, I hope you have a meaningful Yom Kippur.
Best,
Alli Landstrom
Notes from our Nurse
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the district practices that are in place to maximize the health of our students and staff.
- If your child is running a fever of one hundred (100) degrees or greater (or 37.8 degrees Celsius or higher), please keep your child at home until the temperature has been less than one hundred (100) degrees( 37.8 C) for twenty four (24) hours, without the use of fever-reducing medications.
- If your child is experiencing vomiting or diarrhea, please keep your child at home until these concerns have been resolved for twenty four (24) hours, and your child is tolerating food.
- If your child has been prescribed medication for an illness, please keep your child home until it has been over 24 hours since the medication has been started.
- Colds and respiratory viruses are common during the school year. If your child is coughing continuously or has green-colored nasal secretions, you may wish to consult with your medical provider and follow his/her directions.
- If your child is diagnosed with a contagious illness such as Covid 19, strep throat, measles, chicken pox, or pertussis, please notify the school as soon as possible.
- As a reminder, frequent hand washing with soap and water is the primary way to prevent the spread of illness.

PTA Updates
Our Party Our Way Fall Fundraiser
Thank you to all of the parents, faculty, family and friends for all of your generous support for our fall fundraiser! We’ve raised over $6,000 so far! Our goal for the fundraiser is $35,000 so keep the momentum going!! The winners for the first week will be announced on Monday morning!
If you haven't done so already, please create your student's personal donation page by clicking here! Every dollar raised makes a difference in the lives of our students! Thank you again for everything you are doing to make this "Our Party Our Way" fundraiser a huge success!
Funds raised in this campaign will go towards:
- one time expenditures such as flexible seating in classrooms, a possible rock wall (similar to last year's fundraiser providing the new sign out front of Peterson!), and
- ongoing support including classroom academic enrichment, assemblies, student field trips, books for the LMC, events such as movie night, Fall Festival, Savvy Business Kids, Sweetheart Dance, Son Plus One, science fair/ STEM night, teacher hospitality, improving our outdoor spaces, and SO MUCH MORE!
The staff and students thank you for your generous support, as we continue to strive to give our students the most amazing school experience we can!
Family Movie Night
Movie night this past Friday, September 22nd was a huge success. The students and families all had a blast watching Super Mario Bros. and catching up with other Peterson families. We had special guests in attendance at movie night - Danielle-Joy Peterson's parents! Before the movie we watched a special video to learn all about Danielle-Joy Peterson, who we are all honored to have our school named after. If you weren't able to attend but would like to watch the video, you can view it here.
PTA Memberships 2023-24 and Spirit Wear
PTA Memberships and Spirit Wear are available for purchase through our online store. We are currently at 112 memberships with a goal of 145, so please consider joining! One perk of joining the PTA at any membership level (Family Membership or Golden Paw Membership) is access to the school's student directory. The student directory, containing only information each family has given information to share through registration, will be sent to all PTA members in the next few weeks. There is still time to join and get access to this special perk of membership! Please click here to join the PTA and/ or purchase spirit wear today!
Reflections
The 2023-2024 Reflections theme is "I am hopeful because...". Reflections is an art competition hosted by the national and IL PTA that allows children to express their artistic skills. Students in pre-K through grade 12 nationwide create original works of art in one or more of these arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts. We've had students from Peterson make it to the state and national level in the past, and would love even more participation. Reflections rules can be found here. The deadline is October 20th for submission to the school.

Arrival Procedures:
- During the period of time when children are arriving in the morning, no adults, without an appointment, will be allowed into the schools. Children will be allowed in through normal procedures.
- Any adult, without an appointment, who wishes to go into the school to talk with the administration or drop something off at the school will need to wait until arrival procedures are completed for the students or call the office for assistance.
- For all elementary schools, adults without an appointment will not be allowed between 8:50 - 9:05 a.m. Monday-Tuesday, and Thursday- Friday. On Wednesday, that time is 9:00 - 9:15 a.m.
Dismissal Procedures:
- At dismissal time, no adult will be allowed into the school during the time that students are being dismissed. You are welcome to call the office during this time instead of coming into the office.
- Parents who need to speak with the office staff will need to wait until the dismissal process is completed for all students.
- As a reminder, any changes to dismissal plans need to be communicated to the school staff before 3:15 p.m. Any students being picked up for early dismissal should be picked up before 3:15 p.m.
CARES Clinic
Indian Prairie CARES. With support from Edward-Elmhurst Community Investment Fund we are able to offer FREE counseling to our families starting September 26th. Private therapists (not affiliated or employed by District 204) will be available at four schools (Georgetown Elementary, Longwood Elementary, Fischer Middle and Granger Middle) on Tuesday evenings from 5 pm-8 pm. If interested in this FREE service for your children use the link below to register. Everything is CONFIDENTIAL.
Late Start Wednesdays
Each Wednesday is a late start for us. The school day will begin at 9:15 a.m. This late start delays both school drop off and morning bus schedules. It does not change our dismissal time of 3:35.
- 9:00 a.m. Doors open
- 9:15 a.m. School Starts
Arrival/Dismissal
- Please parents, do not be on your phone while dropping off and picking up your child. It is dangerous.
- When you drop off or pick up, please pull over to the left so that we can keep the car line moving.
- There is no parking on Honey Locust between Plantree and Chinaberry and Chinaberry and Winterberry during arrival and dismissal. It makes it difficult for cars to exit the carline. I'm working with city to put signage. In the meantime, I ask that you please do not park there.
