Re-Creating Our Van Allen Mission Statement
Throughout the school year, we have been working on re-creating our mission statement at Van Allen. Check-out the links, below, for some of Mr. Ewald's recent blogs posts: Inspire Learning. Act with Empathy. Van Allen Pride. These posts begin to outline the process that we're using. These are the first three posts in what will be a series of four. Stay-tuned...
Order your school supplies for next year, now!
No more driving around to multiple retailers hunting for that "green plastic 3-hole pocket folder with brads" no one seems to carry! No more towing your kids through the back-to-school shopping crowds at Target, Walmart and Staples! Have all your school supplies waiting in your child's classroom at Back to School Night!
Save time and money when back-to-school shopping. EPI school packs save up to 40% compared to the same supplies from a national retailer. User the order form that will went home with your child. Make your check payable to the Van Allen PTO and return to the school office by June 9th. Orders placed with the paper order form are TAX FREE.
You can also order online by June 23rd:
- Go to: (https://www.educationalproducts.com/ShopPacks/)
- Enter our school code: VAN058
For questions, email the PTO or contact Jacki Marquardt at 704-663-9520.
Lyrical Iowa Poetry Competition
Two Van Allen students were selected as winners in the 2017 Iowa Poetry Association contest called Lyrical Iowa Poetry Competition.
5th grade student, Athena Wu was honored in the Upper Grades category (grades 5-8) for her poem, titled, Homework -
With paper and pencil
I battle a marching army
Of words, numbers
Pencil is my sword
Paper is my shield
I battle the army
Finally, victory is mine
Falling into chair, exhausted
Only to battle another army
Tomorrow
1st grade student, Kyros Wu was honored in the Lower Grades category (grades K-4) for his poem, titled, Traffic -

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Van Allen Families,
Despite the time sacrificed and the patience required, for the safety of all, we encourage EVERYONE to use the car line (this does not include pre-school parents whose arrival and dismissal procedures are different). The following links contain descriptions for both our arrival and dismissal procedures. Please take a moment to read the documents to help ensure our students safety as they arrive and leave each day.
Thanks!
