Writing: For Writing this past week we completed the opinion piece about how we can make a friendlier world.

Reading:

We continued discussing the importance of questioning while reading texts. We completed the Two Bobbies. The students read books on Tumble Books and recorded their text questions in an "I Wonder" book. Ask your child what they read and what types of questions they came up with.

Word Study:

We worked on simple and compound sentences as well as the different sounds of "oo".

Social Studies/Science

This week in Science, we began learning about plants, particularly seeds. The students examined different types of seeds, seed parts, and how seeds travel. We also planted different types of seeds. Ask your child which seed was the most memorable and why was it memorable. You may also wish to ask them what happens to a lima bean after it has been soaked in water.

Mathematics

This week in Math we began Unit 5 on Linear Measurement. We examined the difference between a meter and a yard, as well as an inch and a centimeter. We also discussed the difference between standard and non-standard units of measurement. Ask your child why we used standard units of measurement.

Second Step

This week in Second Step we learned about using empathy and predicting feelings.
