Alkaline Earth Metals
It's time for some Silver
Alkaline Earth Metals are what?
Alkaline Earth Metals are the group two on the Periodic Table and contain soft silver metals. These soft silver metals are less metallic in character when compared to Group 1. This group of elements consist of Beryllium, Magnesium, Calcium, Strontium, Barium, and Radium. The heavier metals are Calcium, Strontium, Radium, and Barium and they are almost as reactive as the elements in Group 1. When you mix any of these elements with Hydrogen you make Hydrides, binary compounds that were formed when something combines with Hydrogen. When you mix the following; Magnesium, Calcium, Barium, and Strontium, with water they react to make Hydrogen gas. This Hydrogen gas goes into our atmosphere. Did you know that the US Navy actually uses some of these chemicals to make fire power?
Magnesium This is Magnesium with a ribbon, burning in the air. This stuff is used by the US Navy. | Burning in Air Magnesium is burning in thin air and this was actually used during a Chemistry Class, as an example. | Alkaline Earth Metals These are all of the Alkaline Earth Metals, and their reactions to different things. |
