Promethean Board Resources!

A FEW NOTES FROM LAURA KELLY, SDSL'S CHILDREN & YOUTH SERVICES COORDINATOR

"Previously, I worked in North Dakota as a district librarian for five elementary schools. I taught 3rd-5th grade library skills using Smart boards at some locations and Promethean boards at other locations. Note that some templates do not transfer! Don’t learn that the hard way like I did! I found both boards very useful for Censorship Jeopardy, End of the Year Trivia Review, Comment Sandwich interactive lessons about blogging, and videos highlighting the ND Children’s Book Award!"

Smart Boards vs. Promethean Boards

TIPS FROM YOUR COLLEAGUES

From Kandi Miller at Tri-Valley Elementary Library

"Some quick bullet points:

  • Any app can be downloaded ….some teachers use the timer and spin the wheel to pick a student of the day…
  • I personally use the website with touch screen function all the time. My board is already connected to the wifi. There is a shelver game on a website that works great with touch screen.
  • Also play youtube videos from science video linking to storytime to actual storytime videos to book commercials to encourage checkout.
  • I also have my ladybug projector connected to it to display my storytime book for all the kids to see the pictures better."

From Stacy Campbell at Corral Drive Elementary in Rapid City

"The ActivInspire software that comes with the board is amazing! There is so much you can do with it. Creating flipcharts for your lessons, etc."

From Gay Mraz at Dupree School Library

"Lots of free flipcharts ready to use or you can edit them to fit your needs! "

From Leslee Reiland at Horizon Elementary School in Harrisburg

"I also use my Promethean Board as a display when reading books to the students. This was best when we were not supposed to be close because of covid. I use my iPad as a document camera to show the book pages. I have a stand that holds the iPad over the book .I don't have any complaints about not being able to see the pictures. The picture quality is much better than a document camera. Our IT department takes care of the board."
