We are offering another session of BUILD to the first 10 participants who register!
BUILD: A K-1 Reading Intervention: To meet the needs of the K-1 students who have been identified at risk for dyslexia, the staff of the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders at the Scottish Rite for Children has developed a 100-lesson reading intervention.
It is designed for small groups and includes the following five components:
- Alphabet
- Letter/sound knowledge
- Phonological awareness
- Vocabulary
- Comprehension
Participants MUST PURCHASE the Build: A K-1 Early Reading Intervention kit from the Scottish Rite Center for Dyslexia. (Cost is $750)
Purchase of a kit from the Scottish Rite Center for Dyslexia is required to attend BUILD Training.
The ordering process is somewhat complex. Give yourself plenty to time to obtain the materials before the day of training.

There are many challenges in the assessment of dyslexia, including the use of varied terminology; reliance on phonological awareness as the sole linguistic risk factor; the inappropriate use of current assessment models; the under diagnosis of twice-exceptional students; difficulties with early identification; complications with English language learners and the existence of co-occurring disorders that confound an accurate diagnosis. This blog discusses the challenges in testing for dyslexia in-depth, as well as the development of an innovative dyslexia test that can help address some of these challenges.

It’s not uncommon for kids to refuse to use their IEP or 504 plan accommodations.
There are lots of reasons kids may refuse to use accommodations, from feeling ashamed to just not needing them.
Once you understand why a child isn’t using an accommodation, you can figure out how to approach the situation.

The Child Find, Evaluation and ARD Supports network will be having a statewide conference this summer. It will be a 2-day ALL virtual conference held on July 17th & 18th. Elizabeth plans on reserving a room here at Region 17 in order to gather and watch this conference together. This conference will bring a variety of topics to help us all "Align" our special education practices.
