Information from the 6th Grade Team
ELA
We are still continuing our Literary Whole-Class Discussions! This week's story, The Scribe, was our last practice. We discussed several deep, societal issues and the importance of literacy. It was an amazing discussion from A and B groups!
After Thanksgiving Break, we will be doing our very last whole-class discussion. This is going to be the discussion that is the most important because we will be discussing the story they will be doing for their Literary Unit End Assessment. There are study materials posted on Google Classroom under the topic Literary Unit Review Materials. There is a study guide, Quizlet flashcards, and a Quizizz game for students to go through. The tentative timeline I have right now is the following:
- Monday, November 30th - Review Day for A and B Day students! B Day students need to also read the story and take notes on their Notetaking Sheet (no digital copy will be allowed).
- Tuesday, December 1st - B Day students will have their whole-class discussion in class. A Day students need to read the story and take notes on their Notetaking Sheet (no digital copy will be allowed).
- Wednesday, December 2nd - A Day students will have their whole-class discussion in class. B Day will continue reviewing and prep for the assessment adding to their Notetaking Sheet.
- Thursday, December 3rd - B Day will take the Literary Unit End Assessment in class (students may use their Notetaking Sheet). A Day will continue reviewing and prep for the assessment adding to their Notetaking Sheet.
- Friday, December 4th - A Day will take the Literary Unit End Assessment in class (students may use their Notetaking Sheet). B Group will focus on Book of the Month Assignment.
More information will be sent to parents and students through email and Google Classroom as well.
Science
This week in science we have been classifying rocks as Metamorphic, Sedimentary, and Igneous. We ended the week with our first ever project. The students are to tell a rocks journey through the rock cycle. The students were able to choose how they wanted to present their information. These projects are due on Tuesday, November 24th. Please see the attachments for more information.
Math
We have been working on the coordinate plane this week and distance. For next week on your remote Google Meet day, we will be working our of our math book on the coordinate plane and distance along with one fun activity.
If you scored below 70% on your mid-topic quiz then you received the correction form on Thursday, 11/19, or Friday, 11/20. This will need to be returned to me on your next in-person school day (11/30-A Day, 12/1-B-Day).
If you have any questions, please let me know. I look forward to seeing students on Monday and Tuesday via Google Meet and I want to wish everyone a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving Break.
Social Studies
The 6th grade students will continue learning about the United States, and they will also be learning about Canada. I will be ending my participation with Mrs. Madill's classes. It has been fun to be involved with the 6th grade curriculum once again. I wish the 6th grade students the very best!
