Penn Pride: We have. We are. Together.

Big picture

Together ...

Our 3rd and 4th graders has a sweet treat yesterday when author/illustrator Melissa Sweet visited! These students have been reading her books and learning about her artwork over the last several weeks. They prepared to welcome her by creating their own art work that connected to her work. Ms. Sweet was impressed by their knowledge of her work, but also their creativity AND the work Mrs. Priske and Mrs. Goeken had done to prepare our students.

The students enjoyed hearing about the creative process that Ms. Sweet goes through and how she worked to become an illustrator and then, author. She had a great message about persevering and seeing the world as being full of ideas!

I was so proud of the students for the respectful and enthusiastic attentiveness they showed our guest. The preparation for this event was a great collaboration between Mrs. Priske, Ms. Goeken and the homeroom teachers. Together. Student experience was richer because of the work these professionals did together.

You can see more pictures of the event and the student's work here and an article from the CR Gazette about Melissa Sweet, her work and visit in our area.

Run for the Schools

We're looking forward to having our own Olympic style torch run on Friday morning, October 25 before the actual run on Sunday. Some students at Wickham will start with the torch and hand it off to runners from North Central, who will then carry it on to VanAllen, who will take it to Garner, who will take it to Grant, who will bring it to Penn. All our Penn students will line the sidewalk out front to see the passing of the torch, and then a few students will carry it on to meet runners from Liberty.

Run for the Schools 2019 is Sunday, October 27!

Walk, run, or volunteer in this family-friendly event that raises money for our schools with half mile, mile, 5K, 10K and half marathon options. Early bird pricing and T-shirt registration deadline is October 11! Register, Volunteer, or Donate today! For more information, go to runfortheschools.com

Students should be in their classrooms at 7:55

With cooler weather, we're seeing a slight increase in car line traffic and also more students arriving slightly late. Mornings can certainly be complicated and challenging. That's why we allow a pretty large window of time for arrival, so that it can be efficient and quick. THANKS!

McTeacher Night at McDonalds: Tuesday, October 29th 5-7pm

Eating at McDonalds on Tuesday, October 29th from 5-7pm is an easy way to help our PTO raise money for our school. McDonalds gives a percentage of all sales during that two hours. The homeroom teacher with the most students attending will also win $100 to spend on their classroom. Drive thru counts too!

HALLOWEEN Parade and Parties

We will celebrate Halloween on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

The whole school will be on parade at 1:20 pm. We'll be outside on the playground if weather permits or through the gym. Parents are welcome to come to watch.

Teachers will provide more specific info about their classroom parties.

All students are welcome to bring a costume for the parade, but no one has to dress up.

Please remember: dressing up is fun. Let's keep it fun. No weapons, even play weapons, are allowed as part of costumes.

Order Penn Spirit Wear

Penn spirit wear included in the newsletter. Orders are due October 23rd and there are lots of new items are available. Could we also have this sent to all the teachers they can order if wish.
