Drop Off / Pick Up

Drop Off Time: 8:35 am

School Start Time: 8:45 am

School End Time: 3:30 pm

Pick Up Time: 3:30 pm

Walkers Release Time: 3:25 pm

Arrival

The doors are open at 8:35. Unfortunately, we cannot have students dropped off earlier because there is no one to look after them, so please drop off students between 8:35-8:45.

Our number one priority is student safety! Please do not drive out of line and then cut back in. We would appreciate it if all cars could wait in line until traffic starts to move because the line will move as a whole.

The faster students exit their cars, the quicker the line goes. We appreciate your patience as you wait.

It takes approximately 10 minutes to get all students safely in and out of their vehicles once we begin the drop-off and pick-up process, but we need your support!

To ensure all students are safe and our drop-off and pick-up lines are efficient, please read the helpful tips below:

* Have your child wait in your vehicle until 8:35 am until there is an adult on duty.

* Enter on 20th Street and follow the route on the map above.

* Do not use the parking lot in the front of the school for drop-off or pick-up as ANCCS does not have a crossing guard increases the chance of an accident.

* Once your child is dropped off or picked up, you may remain behind the vehicle in front of you or pull into the second lane to exit.

* Please keep cell phones put away during this time as it is against the law for anyone to be on their cell phone on school property.

* Have your child ready to get out of the vehicle as you near the drop-off zone. They should exit the car on the right side of the vehicle.

* Be on the lookout for children at all times when driving!

Dismissal

Your students must be picked up between 3:30 - 3:45 pm.

Students will not be released to anyone other than parent/guardian without consent. If you need to make arrangements to have your child picked up by someone who is not already in their approved contacts, please call the office ahead of time. Each family will receive a name tag to assist the ANCCS staff member in completing the car list.

Do not check your child out of school during the last 15 minutes of the day. If you have to check your child out early, please ensure that it is before 3:15. Also note, that East High dismisses at 2pm, so when you're arranging for an early dismissal keep that in mind.

FastBridge Testing

As part of The Alaska Reads Act, the State of Alaska requires that districts administer an early literacy screening tool three times a year to students in grades K-3 to identify potential reading difficulties in order to improve reading outcomes for students. Families can read more about this comprehensive K-3 reading policy at The Alaska Reads Act website: education.alaska.gov/akreads

FastBridge is the ASD benchmark assessment and screening tool for students in grades K-3 in reading and grades K-2 in mathematics. Educators in grades 4-8 may also use FastBridge with students as a screening and progress monitoring tool. FastBridge utilizes curriculum-based measures and is used by schools as part of the ASD Comprehensive Assessment System to support informed instructional decisions.

FastBridge will only be administered in-person during the benchmark windows listed below:

  • Fall 2022: August 31 - September 14

  • Winter 2022: November 30 - December 14

  • Spring 2023: April 17 - April 28

Results for K-3 students that were assessed during a benchmark window, will be available in Parent Connect the week after each benchmark window closes ParentConnection Login Information: parentconnect.asdk12.org

Fastbridge screening results for summer school students will be available in Parent Connect after August 18, 2022.

Nurse's Corner

Welcome Back! I hope you all have had a great summer. Here is what you need to know for the start of the year:

ASD is following the State Law of "No Shots, No School". This starts on the first day of school, please make sure immunizations are up to date or exemptions are on file with the nurse before the first day of school. Covid and Flu vaccines are not required immunizations for school.

PLEASE have medical plans with parent and provider signatures on file with the nurse along with emergency medications BEFORE AUGUST 26th (our Arctic Valley Berry Picking trip). We are not close to emergency services up there. All medications including cough drops are kept in the nurse's office with parent permission on file (long term or short term medications), except for grades 6-8 if plan says an epi pen or inhaler can be self-carried by student. Please contact nurse if you have any questions about paperwork or medications. Burkard_petra@asdk12.org or select 2 when calling ANCCS.

If your student has any new food allergies, or food allergies that have not been reported to school, please let me know so we can make sure kids are not getting those foods from the cafeteria and we can alert those foods on student records.

Covid symptoms will be treated like any other illness this year. Please see "How sick is too sick for school". A fever is defined as a temperature of 100.4 or higher. If your student has a fever, please keep them home until fever free for 24 hours. Fever reducing medications hide a fever. That is not considered fever free. Please do not give fever reducing medication and send kids to school. Covid tests are not available at school this year and are not required after being home sick. If you CHOOSE to test for Covid and the result is POSTIVE, then ASD will follow the Covid protocol: home from school days 0-5 and wearing a mask days 6-10.
