Volume #6 - Engaging Our Students In A Virtual Classroom
This is ETA!
Engineering & Technologies Academy (ETA) is located at Roosevelt High School. ETA provides a specialized curriculum with rigor and relevance for students seeking a future in Engineering, Cyber Security, Advance Manufacturing (Robotics) and Graphic Design. In addition, ETA students are prepared for attaining Industry-Based Certifications related to these fields of study. Students at ETA also enjoy the opportunity to get involved and compete year-round in CyberPatriots, Robotics, Rocketry and with the (TSA) Technology Student Association competitions up to the national level. ETA believes in the added value of advanced placement course where students are strongly encouraged to graduate at the Distinguished Level with as many endorsements as they are able to achieve. ETA offers a hands-on, problem-based learning environment where they continually are faced with solving real-world problems using the most current methods, modalities and technologies available. These skill sets guide our magnet students into becoming very adept problem solvers with excellent critical thinking skills.
ETA Administration
Mr. Robert Lozano - ETA Director
A special thank you to our student club officers and their teacher sponsors for last weeks presentations at our ETA virtual potluck event. Our magnet students did an outstanding job representing their clubs respectively and shared their stories on the impact that each club has had on them over the past years while at ETA.
For those of you who have not heard about the latest news regarding NEISD expanding STEM opportunities across the district with a new Cybersecurity Magnet Program, please click on the link below for more details:
NEISD Launches New Cybersecurity Magnet Program
NEISD Cybersecurity Center In The NEws:
We, at ETA, are so honored that Dr. Maika, his executive staff and our school board have chosen to highlight ETA's Cybersecurity pathway and now in the process of expanding this curriculum district-wide to be made available to all high school students across our district at this new stand-alone cyber academy. We are so proud of the accomplishments of Mr. Beck and our former and current CyberPatriot students for their accomplishments and placing ETA, Roosevelt and NEISD on the national map when they were awarded CyberPatriots All-Service National Champs (as well as 3rd place national finalists and Cisco champs) late last school year. ETA parents and students, please keep in mind that this is a yearly progression process as next year only (150) Freshmen will be accepted and attend at the Cybersecurity Academy as our instructors will continue to offer a continuation of our students' program for the remainder of their time while at ETA. The details of how that will look like have yet to be determined but the district has ensured us that they will not leave our current Cybersecurity students at ETA looking for another Program Of Study.
NOTE: The district, local businesses and higher education entities are currently working with ETA to expand our Engineering, Robotics and Graphic Design pathways to continue to grow and enhance our existing Program Of Studies for the years to follow.
Best Regards,
Robert Lozano

Hello ETA Students and Parents,
Thank you for joining us last week for our ETA Potluck event! We hope it gave you the opportunity to learn more about the many programs and extra-curricular activities ETA has to offer. This week I would like to remind you that Friday, September 25th, is our 1st 6 weeks UIL eligibility grade check. Students, review your grades, turn in missing work, and take advantage of tutoring time available before school and after school to stay on top of your grades. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help. We are here to support you! I will be posting the UIL Eligibility calendar in my Google Classroom for your reference.
Seniors, if you haven’t already done so, please let Mrs. Taylor know if you plan to participate in the FREE SAT School Day opportunity on October 14th. Below is the Google Form link to submit your intention. Exams have been ordered for all students, but this will help her for planning purposes. Juniors, the PSAT/NMSQT will be offered to you on October 29th. Please confirm with Mrs. Taylor if you will be able to participate. The Google form link is posted below and is due by October 1st at 4:00 PM. If you took care of this through your English III class, you do not have to resubmit.

Hello ETA Families and Welcome Back!
FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATION:
We still have many students who have not completed the free/reduced lunch application, because so many students are receiving food packs free of charge. Parents please go on line and complete the application. The link is below:

Child Nutrition contact number for assistance: 210-356-9113
Parents who wish to change from virtual to in-person learning for their child(ren) can do so by notifying your campus - ETA families can send me an email notifying me of your decision to change to in person learning. The deadlines to notify your child’s school are as follows:
- October 16
- November 12
- December 18
- February 3
- March 5
- April 16
Should a seat be available for your child, instruction would begin within 48 hours after the above deadlines. Because seating may be limited, there is not a guarantee your child will be able to attend in-person instruction on the date you select. There are no deadlines for students who change from in person to virtual instruction. This change can occur at any time throughout the year within 48 hours of notification as long as virtual instruction is occurring.
