AMCMS Principal's Office
What is going on in the Principal's Office?
My Challenge to You
This Thanksgiving be sure to take the time to celebrate your traditions. Traditions are what makes this time of year so special. If you do not have any traditions for Thanksgiving I would encourage you to start a couple. Every year we run in the TAMU Turkey Trot 5k on Thursday, go shopping on Black Friday, cut down our Christmas tree on Saturday and decorate the house on Sunday. I look forward to these special activities each year because it keeps me grounded in what matters most, family.
No matter if you are driving the road home or if the road home leads to your house, enjoy every second. When you are together with those that mean the most to you, take the time and soak it up. There is never enough time... even when you are ready to get back to "normal".
I am thankful for each and every one of you. You are the reason AMCMS is a such a great place. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication for our students. Please enjoy your time away, take time for your traditions, enjoy your family and allow yourself time for a break. You deserve it.
Think. Achieve. Succeed.
Jeff

Tech Tip of the Week
So I have a single iPad in my classroom what can I do? Well lots of things (besides sign up for the iPad carts). One of the great tools is called recap. Here is a brief description and a video.
Recap prompts students to respond to teachers’ questions on video and then asks them to rate how they think they did on the assignment after. Student responses and feedback are stored privately within the app, where teachers can revisit to get a closer look at each student's individual performance, while gathering data on the entire class. This capability and ease of use position Recap as the perfect foundation for frequent formative assessments.
Academic Tip of the Week
Are you having issues with students acting out toward you when you are talking to them? Here are some things to think about to help you in your conversations with students.
Avoid sarcasm, criticism, threats, and arguments to prevent students from feeling trapped. When students feel trapped, they are more likely to act out toward those that they feel are trapping them. Words matter, both their words and your words.
SPED Tip of the Week
Please make sure that as you are beginning the review process that any reviews given to students are appropriate for their accommodations and are similar to the format of the test they will be taking.
See you at the Help Sessions!
Wellness Tip of the Week
Walk away from worries
"The rhythm and repetition of walking has a tranquilizing effect on your brain, and it decreases anxiety and improves sleep," says nutrition-and-wellness expert Ann Kulze, MD. Aim for a brisk, half-hour walk every day.
Start a walking habit during the Thanksgiving break! It is a habit that has so many benefits, the most important is taking time to invest in yourself!!
